| Show pennsylvania conference the pennsylvania conference of the northern states mission was held at LUtle toD west virginia saturday and sunday march abd an introductory meeting was held on friday eve evenice DiLg and there were three meetings on each day of the conference also a priesthood meeting between twe en the two sessions on sunday all the elder except elder H 0 keetch who was too ill to attend having a considerable distance to travel and elder wm win H freeman who returned home during the present month oh account of the death of his bis litte daughter were present president Stayner froda washington D C and elder orson whitaker from kandeb utah joined us on saturday president stayner desired the speakers to confine their remarks to the first principles of the gospel the remainder of the morning session was taken up by elder joe JOB waite who spoke poke upon the necessity of obeying the initiatory ordinances toe afternoon session like the previous one was interesting the speakers were elders david Oacar A Robin pon poD thomas lj houston and orson oreon whitaker and president C W stayner all of whom bore mony to the truth of the gospel brother stayner said it was waa necessary for us to obey the laws of god as he bad revealed them for they like the laws of the land are to be enforced upon all coming within their jurisdiction to be in possession of the highest blessings of god men would be compelled to accept the doctrines of christ at the evening meeting the congre gation gallon which was again a large one was addressed by elders goo geo ajohn W johnson and joseph H denio upon the necessity of following the pattern which jesua his bag set of calling ministers of obeying the gospel and of giving need to the injun cdon of the savior to seek first the kingdom of god and his righteous righteousness new pa on sunday elder albert M miner bore testimony to the fact that the second coming of christ was near at hand band he was followed by H F thomas who showed that a departure from the gospel preached by the savior and hit apostles had aken place joseph waite occupied the remainder of the time dwelling up n the restoration of the gospel at the afternoon meeting president stayner read from the pearl of great price from the prophet joseph smiths own statement the account of his farat vision and the organization of the church he earnestly advised the people to call upon god with a prayerful heart in the name of jesus carlst to ask him if what joseph smith said concerning the restoration of the gospel as contained in his writings was true as it was an important message president fi stayner occupied theotime the time i on sunday evening explaining the meaning of the words great and dreadful day of the lord 11 the second coming of christ and the 16 kingdom of god I at the priesthood meeting the time was taken up in hearing the reports of labor done during the last six months and the present condition of the fields about meetings had been held by the nine elders engaged in the conference and the respective fields afforded opportunities for much more labor with a 4 probability that several would be added adde to the church many friends were gained and invitations extended to hold meetings in many places the following appointments were made anti and sustained elder H C keetch to labor in cal houn county W va with headquarters qu arters at elders thomas houston and orson whitaker to labor in tyler county with headquarters at Midd middlebourne lebourne elders joseph H denlo denio and albert W miner to labor in wetzel county W with ith bead headquarters quarters st at littleton elders george W johnson and oscar A robinson to labor in preston county elder H F thomas to labor in peana penna and subsequently jn jim barbour county W va the general authorities of the church charles W stayner Bt ayner president ol of the northern states mission hyrum F thomac acting president i t and clerk of pennsylvania conference and joseph H denlo denia treasurer of pennsylvania Confer conference ecce were unanimously sustained by the brethren some important instructions in relation to the duties of members were given anu questions of material worth answered on the president stayner took a fa farewell rewel of his bis baud band of brethren on en route for the western conferences of the mission and elders joseph waite and david equipped with honorable releases and with a happy parting boarded the B 0 11 for metz to await the passes which wilt entitle them to a trip some twenty five hundred miles hence H F THOMAS clerk of conference LITTLETON wetzel county W va march 29 1892 |
