Show A VOICE FROM DENMARK under date late date of march ard 3rd 1892 elder joseph who presides over the aarhuus conference denmark writes the following very interesting late resting letter to president edward H anderson of the scandinavian mission he says toe the prospects here in aarhuus for the spread of the truth are exceedingly good at present and a new interest has been awakened the people our meetings are attended by a large number ber of str augere who are attentive listeners and many are earnestly investigating ti the Q G we had ane privilege of baptizing three intelligent persons on the ath just aud and many others will come in the near future fatur invitations to visit strangers in their homes are so many that we are unable at present to fill all the requirements brothers J C Berthel seii and S 0 sorensen have been laboring in toe the country around silkeborg Silk eborg as well weli as in that city the past four months with good results some have been added to t the church and a large number of honest people are investigating very little missionary labor has been done in that neighborhood for many years the gospel appears to be new to them and even the press is cum commenting upon it the saints in this branch are living jiving as asa a rule and they are hospitable to the servants of god who are sent among them with authority from god to preach the gospel last fall we removed the bead headquarters tarm of horsens bra branch eh from horsens to fredericia Frede ricia our creaso reaco js is for so doing being that the people in the first named place took no interest in bearing the truth now since the elders are no longer there they begin to wish them back again which is abundantly mant mani tested iu in the JD increased creased attendance at meetings occasionally held there by elder C meyer those who reject the gimpel will truly have reason to wail when they shall hunt bunt from shore to shore fur for the word of god aud and not nd it quite an interest has been frederici Frede ricia and a number are re investigating batiz the branch Is large making it di difficult alt for the elders to get over their district and do it justice notwithstanding this regular meetings are held in esbjerg and many meetings are held in the country all well attended keeping keepin 9 two halls balls in this branch makes it quite expensive the saints as a rule are poor and hence the missionaries a must bear much of the expense as well as support theme themselves elves since as far a flensburg Flens bur was added to this branch these brethren have made some tours into that region causing them additional outlay yet they do not complain but are aie desirous and determined by the help of the lord lom to do allin all in their power to spread the glad tidings at any cost president myer pays they found many in vic that never had heard the espel as taught by the latter day hal kii ate ints and that if the same freedom was found there for holding meetings that exists lix this country many would gladly obey the truth the prospects for bringing some to a knowledge knowledge of 01 the truth are promising the saints ints in this branch are feeling well much credit to is due the missionaries for their energy under the prevailing circumstances in odense an unusual interest is hanife manifested sted many meetings have been helu held in the country during the winter which have been so crowded that many were unable knabl to get in ID asa as a consequence many are studying tu dying our principles and it is a long time since such uri an interest in the truth has baa been exhibited hythe by the people on the Is island landof of ayen the missionaries have nut not been able to nil fill all the calls for fer fireside conversations while attending a branch meeting in odense on januray 1 learned that the city of assena had not been visited for a series ot years by elders I 1 advised elder P seu sen to try and open a field of labor there he did so hiring a hall ball for a few months and the results are regular meetings largely attended the people and authorities have so far acted very kindly toward us and our hoats that the opening will result in good are great regular meetings are held bold in odense three times each week another missionary is nee needed led very much at press present u t the greenaa branch formerly in eluded lu in A aarhuus was organized in october 1890 half of its pie present sent membership have been baptized since its stion the people live up to i heir duties and are a great aid to the conference they are united as an one elder J C berthelsen presided until october 1891 winning the favor and confidence of the saints elder eider M P Bor has presided with credit since that time but since new year has been unable to get about owing to severe illness the saints feel well and are preparing themselves to tw be worthy ot gathering with the body of the church in the randers banders branch quite a number have been baptie d during the banfe year but in the city of randers the harvest seems to be over and very lit tie gleaning to be found the chance chalice of holding meetings lu in the country Is also alao limited lim lied the few who attend seem to expect amusement rather than information as a rule some good ls being done in demstrup Dem three and a half danish miles east of rande panders where a number dumber of honest people are investigating meetings have been forbidden but 11 fireside res ide preaching to bringing baingi ng the truth to some the main opening in the branch is in skive where we vre have hired a hah ban that will met about the gospel has not been io preached reached in this place for about thirty years and la Is entirely now new to most of ito if inhabitants they seem to know no more about it than before it was in reduced in 1860 1850 some of zion zions s moat faithful saints emigrated from that part in early years A new generation has bag now grown up unacquainted with the plan diall of salvation and as air there are many honest an good people among them we look for a num bet to obey the glad ines message sage of salvation I 1 went to skive on february 19 expecting to begin our regular meet ings on the but on account of a severe snowstorm was comp compelled ellea to dei de lay jay the opening to in the meantime we we dedicated the ball to the service of the lord asking his bis peace and power to at tend our labors therein elder jacob jorgensen and 1 I went to the chief of police informing him of our intentions to hold bold meetings and asking his pro lection in case came of disturbance while we were preaching the gospel of ic christ but to dur surprise he abused as shamefully and would give or H promise to give us no protection think H ing no doubt to hinder us ue but know 1 ing to in whose service we were we knew in whom we could rely for protection we therefore had our meetings adver offid in the newspaper to be held every thursday evening at 8 and sunday at 2 and 7 on february we held a good meeting in which good order pre many questions were asked and answered after meet ing and an interest was awakened since then three meetings 7 have been held largely each at eat being occupied and some stand ing all being strangers as there are no saints some little disturbance occurred but it was promptly quelled and the disturbers disturb ers put to shame thus by moving out luto into new fields many hundreds are hearing the tb gospel who have never enjoyed that opportunity and if there are any of the blood of israel they will surely be ga gathered therea out as they will know the voice that calls them it makes my heart rejoice in v contemplating the tze excellent ellent prospects we have in spreading the gospel ministers are warning T the people against us and nearly all the papers have something to say about us all of which aleh will result in our favor though fc not so intended one thing thine iii ia worthy of nott not the elders are bearing the expenses of opening up these theme new fields themselves this proves true interest in the cause of god and illustrates the exportation seek first the kingdom of god etc the sacrifice of the brethren who labor in foreign lands is great they part from all that is near and dear to them spend their own money to go to their fielis fields of labor support themselves hire meeting houses buy tracts thanking og any one who will receive one and read it travel from house to house bouse trying to find and listeners to their humble testimonies co onies yet they rejoice in all this but those who are enjoying the blessings of god at home in the filst of plenty by some assistance amista oce to theR would lay up treasures where returns are both large and sure one more item and I 1 will close oa fob feb 26 the elders visited a sister in skive who waa baptized about eight years ago she was confined tv t her bed having been edtice marob 1891 and ad confined eon son fined to her bed for the post past two months or more she asked to be administered to which was dune done and the he was beal healed edby by the power of god avid and on the same day able to attend to her household duties |
