| Show SENATOR CULLOM IN 1892 JA i THE rumor is spreading abroad that senator colloms Cul name will be beard at the republican national convention ti n in 1892 as one who will accept the presidential nomination if it should be tendered the senators little boom has not been on long but it is taking ground with astonishing rapidity it would be difficult to determine now how strong a candidate mr cullom would make but much to his favor it may be said that whether his numerous reviewers are friends or enemies they respect his prospects as a possible can didace sufficiently to be always civil and usually complimentary taking his bis record for a guide his party would at least have no occasion to be ashamed of such nuch a man in the white house he has been a hard bard worker from boyhood and we believe his evades vors though not dot always bentov bestowed where they would do the most good have been earnest and conscientious his experience as a politician a lawyer and a lawmaker began very early in life he studied in the same law office with lincoln and about the same time that lincoln was made president of the united states cullom was elected speaker of the illinois legislature he went to congress in 1865 and served three terms he was then reelected elected re to the state legislature and in 1876 was made governor of illinois in which capacity he served till elected to the senate of the united states in 1883 his career in congress has been active and strong whatever failings he may possess as a statesman feebleness is not one of them we do not think his nomination probable but his name is mentioned as a probable candidate with anything but derision |
