presidency francis webster members of the high council representative senta tive brethren from the different wards in the stake also elder B H roberts of salt lake city on sunday after the al exercises president francis webster made a few opening remarks parowan carowan Pa rowan cedar and wards were next re ported by their several bishops elder joseph H armstrong who had recently returned from a mission gave a very interesting account of his la labors borsand and experiences while traveling and pi preaching es ching the gospel in the world he as also dwelt at length upon the subject of mutual improvement in the afternoon the remaining time was oc occupied by elder B R H roberts who delivered a powerful discourse his subjects being the sacrament of the kordig supper and the gospel of jesus christ in the evening the usual priesthood meeting was held and business pertain in ing to the stake transacted an on monday morning the summit and wards were reported read and a list of home presented and sustained the speakers were richard atherley chas W heyborne hey borne wm win holyoak L D watmon and robert W heyborne and the subjects subject a treated upon were incidents of missionary life education of cheav outa influences of good ing force of example and the first principles of the gospel on monday afternoon the general and local authorities were presented and sustained by vote of the conference the remaining time was occupied by elder roberts roberto who discoursed upon the following subjects duties of parents towards their children the completeness of the organizations in the church of jesus christ the examples men net iset before their families abe be singing by the parowan carowan choir under the able leadership of professor durham was an important feature of the conference and was appreciated by all present the conference was fairly attended and a good spirit prevailed throughout the conference adjourned to meet in cedar city WM H holyoak clerk PAROWAN june 22 BEAV EBy the quarterly conference of beaver stake closed on the evening of the dinst when some important changes in the presidency and other officers were made the regular conference meetings were prefaced by a meeting of the high council stake presidents and others on saturday evening the resignation of president J R murdock was taken u under rider consideration on sunday morning the council unanimously endorsed the action of the first presidency in accepting the resignation of president murdock and the choice of bishop charles D white to fill the vacancy with marcus L shepherd and john P F tolton as counselors this step vacated the bishopric of the first ward beaver city after discussion it was decided to consolidate the two beaver wards under one bishopric and bishop george munford was chosen as bishop of the beaver ward with robert W stoney and james thompson as counselors A vacancy occurring in the high council by the removal of brother vm wood jr to be counselor to bishop solomon walker of miners ville brother wm win fotheringham was chosen to fill the vacancy the voting in eve every ry instance was unanimous the conference proper commenced alloa at 10 a m on sunday the dinst the apostles occupied the time with remarks that were well calculated to promote union increase faith advance the great work in the hearts of the geoe and further the work of truth in this stake between the meetings a council of the priesthood was held and ana the action of the high council respecting the change of officers was laid before tile the meeting A vote was taken a and nd their action sustained without dissent at the afternoon meeting the resignation its acceptance the vacating of the offices and consolidation of the two wards were all presented for action of the assembly the vote in eve every ry instance was unanimous fully sustaining and endorsing all the brethren chosen in making the change and per the organization the general church authorities were fully sustained also the local officers as organized A spirited meeting was held in the evening at which president crosby of panguitch Pan gultch and daniel of kanab stakes and morgan richards rich ar d g jr arof of Pa carowan parowan rowan were the speakers they imparted much timely instruction with interesting testimonies the meeting held on monday morning was addressed by pres thompson of millard pres chamberlain of kanab stakes and apostles cannon and lund their interesting monies aud and wise counsels were listened to with close attention in the afternoon president M M steele of panguitch president C D white of beaver stake counselor M L shepherd and J F tolton spoke in acceptance of their new positions ex president J B R murdock murdoch espres ex pros sed his gratitude towards the saints for their support and good feeling during his bis presidency apostle lyman related some of the incidents in the lives of the brethren who had addressed the conference including those in his own career the changes made have vacated two of the presidency of the seventies twelfth quorum and the choice of J P F tolton as second counselor to president white created a
