Show I 1 GOOD resolutions THE resolutions passed by the demo cratic convention held in this city oo on june are broad enough we should think to satisfy the most liberal believer in democracy whether he be mormon or gentile 11 As we understand der stand the matter they are an expression of true democratic doctrine both on national questions and such as relate to the local situation they cannot fall fail to bring a great following to the party throughout this territory in the movement for the elevation of utah above the plane of local strife and bitterness the democrats have taken the initiative and so far have kept ahead they haveron bained material advantages it depends upon the course that will be pur sued by their political opponents in the near future whether they will be able to maintain those advantages it is evident that but very few faw professing democrats will remain connected with the decaying liberal faction adherence to it by prominent republicans will prove the most potent bar to the success of the republican party of utah in winning to its ranks former members of the disbanded peoples party while the idea to is permitted to prevail that liberalism PY is republicanism a prejudice against the latter will exist and this will hinder the work of proselytism among the people of utah who have been so persistently and abused by the former which has ever been a toe foe to the progress of the territory and an enemy to freedom it is only by a thorough repudiation of the ring which is still seeking to control affairs here that the republicans of utah will be able to match the democrats in the movement now in progress the resolutions adopted by the dem doratio convention will take well with the people and the party that has formulated them has a bright outlook the ogden convention of republicans will perhaps develop new strength and make such expressions of republican doctrine and intentions as will give that party a new impetus taking it dearly clearly beyond connection conn eption with the liberal faction and leading forward to liberty and peace for utah and its people if not the democracy will keep ahead |
