explanation F aitor deseret dearee mews in the report of the proceedings of the school board meeting held thursday evening last a portion of the report port of the joint committee on buildings anti and sites in regard to advertising was omitted from the newspapers and thereby the public is left in doubt as aa to all the recommendations of the committee adopted by the board in regard to the remarks said to be made by me about school registers the impression to is conveyed that the teachers were required to keep registers and that their pay be withheld until the registers were filed with the superintendent I 1 in nten dent tome to me it would seem folly to call attention to this when schools had bad virtually closed for the year the facts were that section 58 of the new school law required certain things to be done by the teachers in order to make the statistical reports complete and required the last months pay withhold withheld until this was doue I 1 simply called attention to it and read the section and asked that the clerk of the board be instructed ted to withhold the warrant until the reports contemplated by law had been idled filed with the superintendent and that if necessary the superintendent notify the teachers the superintendent reported that he had already attended to the matter As the newspapers are the only source of information on public matters that the people have it should therefore be as plain as possible yours truly JOHN N PIKE 0 irrigation convention the following communications speak for themselves to his arthur L thomas governor of utah
