as chaplain opened the meeting with prayer mrs greenhalgh of millard county cou oty was called to the chair and a temporary organization effected the names of officers nominated at the executive session of the morning were placed before the convention and sustained president sarah M kimball made the opening remarks fellow suffragists and representatives of the various counties of our fair territory it affords me pleasure to meet you as workers coworkers co in the cause of womans comans political advancement this convention has been called for the purpose of deM deliberate berate consultation on the best methods to be adopted relating to the educational and reformatory work of this ass association cia tion it is a source of regret that this territory is not yet thoroughly organized we hope this will soon be remedied cheering reports report fron various county associations stimulate in us the hope and assurance that thoughtful women and good men will bouti continue aue to agitate and press onward in the cause of wo mans political emancipation until the clarion noted shall sound from the mountain vales to the ends of the earth that womans comans wo mans political shackles are broken and she stands beside her brother man is the image ot of that god who created man male and female and blessed them and gave them dominion we hope the result of his convention will be helpful to auxillia ry branches throughout the territory minutes of the convention held aaril april 3rd ard was read and approved reporting ep orting delegates were limited to five minutes by reason of the number present to report and the lack of time salt lake county reported be ported by president howard has a number bumber of organizations but the county is not fully organized some of the assistant officers have worked with a good deal of zeal others have not attended a single meeting total enrollment of members in the county was about but average attendance was small there was much to discourage those who would be discouraged utah county president patton there are good organizations meetings held regularly and a fair attendance there were many intelligent and ana efficient workers one of the hardest things to bear was the snubs of those really ignorant of the great question and reform in involved volviA regretted that there were no men sufficiently interested to be present at the convention weber county president stanford was pleased to meet with the ladies of the suffrage whom she looked upon as sisters held meetings pretty regularly in ogdon ogden and had good times there was a large enrollment if ibe at was rather small the en grollment roll ment served to show a passive interest and approval at least not many men had bad attended their meetings but those who had had given powerful instructive and convincing speeches on the subject notable among recent visitors were bishops wallace ani chenes and ron hon P F 8 Kic bards in sifting opposition whether from men or women generally found that it arose from ignorance of the principal objects and aims of the ladies engaged in tile the cause considered that comans womans influence was needed to correct many errors quoted victor hugos fanous saying if man is king woman is queen J applause paid a high tribute to tier her husband as a believer in equal rights encourager and helper of the cause and her part of it especially she felt very much encouraged millard county president green haggh the county was large to in area contained but few inhabitants they were alive in the cause and pretty well posted had visited the entire number of associations three times since last october there were three hundred members enrolled but there was very little money in the county spoke of the celerity with which money had bad been raised to send the delegate to washington women had been paralyzed by having the vote taken from them but were recovering and becom ing educated made a few remarks on the subject in general that was much applauded cou nty ex jakeman was asked by president kimball to report this county there being no delegate present was unable to give a very definite idea of recent work done because of her removal from the county gave a very high eulogy on the liberal principles sympathy and generosity displayed by the people of that county both men and women as a evinced by their acts with the suffrage question said they could be absolutely relied upon to do their duty davis da vis county president dark have four associations regular meetings very fair attendance have studied civil government the difference between absolute monarchies limited monarchies and republics as aa well as a dunber of kindred subjects expected to take up systematic study this winter found more indifference among men than women believed the time would come when those who now stood on the too ioe burg of indifference indi fforence chilling effort by their sarcasm would find it melting anthony whose portraits ornamented the speakers speaker sl stand the lady explained many interesting features of the coming worlds fair in which utah women are interested and besought their operation cooperation co from their various localities io to help swell the measure of our territorial success the atter of a territorial representative to washington for the year was discussed and left jeff to
