referred to the mayor councilman anderson I 1 should like to know what your motives are for making such ruch a move mr follano folland councilman folland well wel there is a question involved that is well known to this body and I 1 therefore am opposed to it going to the mayor without our taking such action as will indicate what our wishes in the matter are councilman Ander anderson soo that is the business of the council and not of the mayor if we recommend the dismissal of men from the police force we can do no BO and the mayor cannot reinstate them Coup councilman cilman hardy inasmuch as there isa is a conflict of opinion on this matter I 1 move that it be referred to the he city attorney with instructions to report at the next meeting whether the mayor has the power to deposes depose at his pleasure city attorney hall my opinion is partially prepared but there is one point on which I 1 am not decided and that is how far this council Is operating under tinder the laws of 1888 this is an important point and one that involves other more momentous questions Coun councilman climan tuddenham also favored the motion to lay over for one week pending the preparation and presentation
