| Show FATHER BARNEYS FUNERAL the funeral service over the remains of the late royal barney was held in the ei eighth lith ward meet ing house Wednes wednesday Ey junell june 11 the opening prayer was offered by bishop wm win thorn of the seventh ward the speakers were elders hamilton G park charles bassett solon foster and wm cahoon and bishop wm win thorn churn and E P F sheets they spoke of the sterling integrity of the deceased the many trials he had bad pas parsec au i through and his unwavering raith faith during the fifty nine years of ills his membership in the church the closing prayer was offered off tred by elder joseph mcmurrin father barney was a native of El lisburg jefferson county new york having been boru born there dec 15 1808 his ancestors came from england in 1633 the war of the revolution and also that of 1812 u numbered u anao ng tile the soldiers eis in the american army those of his ivors who were a ie to bear arms and brother barney was himself a captain in tile the ohio militia at the tae age of 21 years he held his commission for five years at the expiration of which time he received an honorable discharge from the governor he was baptized into the church may 8 1831 and was a memet r of zions camp he moved to kirtland in to nauvoo io in 1844 to winter quarters in 1847 and to utah in 1650 five times he was driven from his home by mobs and narrowly escaped assassination when the first quorum of seventies was organized he was waa ordained a seventy by the prophet joseph smith he was afterwards made one oae of the presidents of the tenth quorum and was its senior president ut at the time of his death he leaves 12 chilgren 40 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren grand children |
