Show ELDER EDGAR SIMMONS D 4 among the last letters written 41 b the late elder edgar D simmons were two to lo his bis brother joseph P F simmons one dated december 12 1889 and the other january lot 1890 he was acting in she be capacity of president of the A antab district turkey and engaged in preaching preachy the gospel wherever he could 9 gel 13 opportunity in his letters he refers to the circumstances which chieh are as socia ted with missionary labois in that land and the severe hardships necessary to endure but evinced a spirit of determination and courage in reply to an inquiry by president hintze his bis feelings he stated that he considered it a matter of great reat importance to remain faithfully fully at his post poat the weather at the time of writing was quite cold and he felt the effects but his health was not then impaired he expected soon to be transferred to no information has been received of his sickness further than that he died of smallpox following ing is a brief sketch of brother simmons life edgar dilworth simmons aon of joseph marcellus simmons Sim and his wife rachel emma woolley Wu olley eldest daughter of the late bishop edwin D woolley was born april 25 1868 at salt bait lake city utah territory he started as cash boy in walker bros store in the foil fell of 1873 being then ten years of age and worked his way up from that to the position of teller in the union national bink bank and he was occupying this place when called to go on his mission in his sixteenth year he was employed by the above firm he never missed a day on account of sic sickness knees in fit fact he was never seriously ill in his bis life having been strictly temperate in all things from his hie youth up during the whole of the sixteen years and up to the time of his departure for turkey edgar helped to support his widowed mother his father having died feb 1872 the deceased was ordained a deacon and set apart as president of the deacons quorum in the twentieth ward february 1887 and held this office until he was ordained an elder on january 1889 his faithfulness in the lesser priesthood having been so marked that bishop romney without any solicitation from edgar recommended him to the latter office he was also one of the directors of the twentieth ward institute he was ordained urda ined a seventy just before his departure on a mission april 1889 his mother says that no one knows his worth as well as she does and that she told him on the eve of his departure for his comfort and consolation that in all his life he had never dever caused her one moments uneasiness |
