Show cona n a INE CLU I 1 PRESIDENT AND SECRETARY REPORT THREE GOVERNORS ELECTED GOVERNORS ORGANIZE the commercial club met monday the alth and elected a naw board ot of governors for the ensuing year composed of the following gentlemen it 11 kaiser E tyson P L jr J L pierce and wynn L eddy T reports were submitted gentlemen ot of the box elder com mercial club three years have now elapsed since the inauguration of our club I 1 wonder it if we can all look back upon the work accomplished and feel satisfied with our labors while 1 I for one bone feel fed that more might have been accomplished by our organization I 1 have no desire to attempt to fix the responsibility with any ono one member or committee I 1 feel that we have all been a little careless and indifferent in our efforts toward the promotion of the object and purpose of 0 our association as set forth in article 2 ot of our constitution I 1 do desire to say to you however that while a number of our home pe people 0 feel that no good has resulted from our efforts we should not become discouraged tor for many praiseworthy tributes have been paid our club by the people on the outside not those alone within the confines of our own state but tha ilia adjoining and I 1 might add throughout the whole united states true that many of them may be due to our annual peach day celebration which was inaugurated through the efforts ot of our club and which event I 1 firmly believe would have been celebrated in some other part of the state had it not been for our inception then than too there has been many questions of 0 great importance to the people of brigham city and box elder county brought before u us in our deliberations some of which might have and some that may yet mature could we obtain the united support justly due our organization the box elder Com commercial merial club at present 1 has a i iship of apenir irately 40 persons and thus far it has been self sustaining it is doing as much as can be reasonably expected for the community it represents it Is entitled to and should receive the moral and financial support of every good citizen of box elder county I 1 more particularly those of our own city from an article penned by the hon fisher harris to the salt lake commercial club applicable I 1 think to our own club I 1 quote as follows we have among us rich men and poor lic men en as la in other places es but no man in utah Ss i s so rich and no man Is so poor that lie he is hot bot the beneficiary of the public work of our club and it would seem to be the public duty of all men to sup support P ort the organization and andain aidin the extension of the field of its labors and the effi efficiency clency of its efforts for the advancement of the general welfare wel tare are dut but in this respect the club in its past efforts has been considerably handicapped by reason of the lack of the support it justly should and no doubt will receive the commercial club as an organization is not a representative of the wealthy classes clashes on the contrary men of bf all walks of life are congregated within its walls while the wage earner is its main support and backstay back stay judging from t those liese few lines penned by the greatest booster in the state of utah one would be led to to believe that there is some opposition and lack of interest elsewhere than in our own community notwithstanding tile rne back of interest exit exhibited I 1 baited b by people who should rally to the ald aid of the salt lake commercial club in their efforts toward advancing the commercial and social interests of 0 tho the community in which they and all the people of utah aie interested there is one noteworthy fact there are a few that boost push and hang together an and d it now appears that through the concerted action of these few they are going to succeed in erecting a home worthy of their efforts cG orts at a cost approximating now gentlemen of the box elder commercial club can we not arouse enough enthusiasm in our town and organ organization in the face of all 01 opposition to rally to our support strength enough to establish estabi establish ish quarters that are fittingly symbolic of our alms and purposes sesT we must not overlook the fact that we are assured the support of the ladies auxiliary in this move which means much they having succeeded in all their undertakings would that I 1 could speak the praise for our organization that I 1 feel is alue due the ladles auxiliary for they are surely live and sturdy workers before concluding I 1 want to thank h the members of the club for their support luring during my incumbency as president in conclusion permit me to stats state that this is the only organization 7 approaching anything illative lela tive to its scope in which men are dathe gathered reI tor for the public welfare and the only that Is without politics and without religion neither of these discordant dis cordent elements ts are allowed to obtrude upon its laceful horizon the thesper spir it ot of the public good it alms for tile the natural advancement ot of brigham city and box elder county 4 therefore its march should be onward had and upward its strength gathering as it progresses J C KNUDSON prest to the honorable president board of governors and members of the box elder commercial club gentlemen pursuant to the requirements of tile the bylaws by dy laws of the club I 1 herewith submit my annual report for the past year there are forty members enrolled at the present time there have been heu held nine meetings of the board of governors there have been held 12 meetings of the iii members embers of the club during the year peach day has been observed and I 1 believe I 1 can say that good resulted it is to be regretted that we do not have the operation cooperation co of all of the business men of Drig crisham hain city and it has seemed to me that those who should belong to this organization and lend their support are doing the least toward it and in instances are knocking the club it if I 1 imay may use that i word the question is often asked what good has the club accomplished this question has been asked by the club members and I 1 have thought that some ot of the members in paying their dues have done so begrudgingly it is not tor for any one man of the club to say what good have we accomplished point to the fact that before the commercial club was organized brigham city and her pea chestere ches were little known as compared to her reputation at the present time may we presume too tco much in saying that hat the credit for the advertisement given brigham city is due to us ot or bouc organization may I 1 also say that the good that has been accomplished by this club cannot be estimated at the present time IH my first report given one year ago I 1 advocated and I 1 still advocate that the club should la be incorporated and placed upon a business basis and that we v e should bring to our assistance every business man and person who has the interest of brigham city at heart all of whom should be enrolled I 1 am firmly of the belief that this club should shoud own its own overt quarters and that it should not get aged agaid because some of its members are weak hearted I 1 believe that we should continue to hold peach day and that the advantage that we have gained should not be lost and that the tha members should cease to be envious one of the other if such a feeling exists and that eliere thare should be harmony among us and that we should support each other in building up tip brigham city respectfully J D CALL sec and mgr the board of governors net met last monday and elected J C knudson Knud soa president R kaiser ace
