sinks etc are arc located if iou ou have what I 1 tell will not be news otherwise I 1 hope hopa it will prove interesting to iou the experience was interesting to me there were eleven in fix the company including two children when we lift left brigham last friday afternoon pros pres oleen N stohl pres luclus lucius A snow bishop brigham wright bishop morris peters stake clerk S N lee mary harding of the relief manlee man Lec sadic stohl representing the Y L al I 1 A aana and daisy ma adsen representing the stake primary board and sirs airs two children hazel and lloyd the journey as far as tremont was decidedly pleasant but at that point a veritable blizzard struck us and we had to fate it all the way to the meeting house at bothwell at bothwell the company sep separated abated so that their entertainment should not prove a burden to anyone some staging with bishop hunsaker some with joseph harris and family and others with the families of robert harris and james stokes that evening a meeting was held in the ward house and was very well viell attended attend cj considering the really bad night it was raining the wind was blowing and the darkness was intense but a good time was had nearly nil all the company expressed themselves in short speeches and the quartette S N lee norman lee sadie stohl and daisy madsen sang a song we will just state here in order to dispose of this quartette that they sang a song in every meeting that was held and a good many others at odd times luring during the visit and the we left bothwell about 1 a m on saturday and drove to blind springs where tr mr adolph harris generously threw open the doors of 0 his fine new home and gave gane us free run of oe the place we used the dining room only this time and partook of an excellent meal prepared from the ample lunch box provided by the women after a two hours rest wo we resumed th journey to stopping a short time at blue creek springs and at gunnells place the only draw mackto babli to the plea pleasantness ran ta essof ess of ot the drive daiv was the piercing wind that blew directly in ila our faces all the day it is needless to stats state except for the sake of connecting the narrative that we were maje made warmly welcome at the line fire now new home 0 of f dishop bishop J C cutler others of our old friends from brigham who greeted us its upon our arrival were sir air and mrs airs don mathias Mat hlas mr air and mrs john S din bingham 9 A ball game was just being begun bagun between no wille and stone and I 1 was called upon to officiate as umpire I 1 did the best I 1 could until about the fifth innings when a fine cold rain began to fall then I 1 fell out so learn how the game landed it C i to see those boys play there in tl the to rain the wind blowing through their clothing lik lika a december blast and tile the ground growing greasy under their feet but they seem to care talk about baseball fans A meeting of the eiders quorum was held in fit the evening which was well attended next day sunday meetings were held in Snow snowville vIlle and on monday three meetings were held in stone all of which were well attended in fact it is said by those who know that better attended meetings were never held in these wards people from both and stone were present at all the meetings and the attendance greatly exceeded the population of either ward showing that more than fifty acir per cent of the entire membership of the wards wore were present and the good people of that valley were sincerely rely anxious to show their appreciation of this visit of their friends every attention was paid them and well wishes expressed on every land hand speaking for the visitors they were equally pleased now as to curlew valley and its prospects the possibilities are practically unlimited there is a considerable quantity of water available tor for irrigation but it seems to rue me that dry farming offers the greatest inducements du dry farm farming ing together with cattle and horses sheep and hogs etc I 1 have heard of curlew valley as long as I 1 can remember but was astounded ast bounded at its magnificent proportions when permitted to behold it I 1 ever heard what the dimensions of the valley are but it must be about 25 or 30 miles long varying in width from five to fifteen miles the soil boll is deep and fertile and while garden stuff and some soine fruit is raised the ho country is more mora particularly adapted to grain and alfalfa dry farming ng is engaged in to quite an extent now and since the recent rainstorms brainstorms rain storms the he farmers feel encouraged encourage that the returns from this branch will bo be well worth wl while ille in the north end of the valley around holbrook Holb two large steam plows plow are being run night an ani day and this past week bishop cutler has ila been running a smaller plow eight discs on his pl place ice at with considerable success the spirit of improvement lias has taken a hold on the people gen generally generall crall and it is sald sail by those who have known the valley tor for a long time that more improve merit ment has lucre during the past three or four cars than iu in at any I 1 y ita eln ears previously if the settlers in curlew cm lew will just stand together and boost for their part of 0 the country it will vill not be long until every ever bit ol of available ground will vill be under cultivation and every farm will present such a favorable appearance that strangers will be drawn there to make homes then will follow the railroads and the telephone and every modern convenience the people of snowville Snow ville already enjoy the luxury of an excellent water system tile the water bang piped from a spring in the mountains about two miles distant one tiling thing that has retarded the march of this valley in ill times past Is the litigation over water this trouble was apparently settled a short time ago but it appears that it has broken out in one place quite recently asa as a suit has been instituted to determine the rights of a certain party to surplus waters we hope that the fase will be speedily take taken a out of court and tranquility on that score reign once more the following lines are good to consider when we begin to have attacks of selfishness in this giddy game of fortune be it mans or be it towns fate can easily be conquered never matter how she frowns it if we will catch on together absolutely sol bound to win or as the street phrase has it it if we all stand in stand in yes the shibboleth in unity is strength lets make the thing unanimous combine and detour length declare hard times a fa fallacy cy face the future with a grin anil and in resultant happiness well all stan stand in we were surprised to meet a great number of brigham people who have taken up land out there among others we met fred kelly and his mother and family don matalas Mat hlas aurelius johnson john S dingham 1 johnnie dingham bingham and joseph cutler l with their families they all have some good land and ire are optimistic of the future four of these men have located quarters of the same section so that they all corner at one point and near this point they built their homes this method tends to reduce the lon lowliness liness that would otherwise be felt in going to a new country ous teamsters wanted plenty of day light in which to make the home trip a distance of sixty miles so aso we were routed out at live five tuesday morning arid and rot got started towards home it at about 8 we stopped with myrtle cutler gunnell carh w arax arp ak fasted a and nd fed our teams then we drove to dishop bishop P 31 31 hansens at elwood reaching there at 1 p in and had dinner tho the rain storm met us near point lookout and made the roads a little atle slippery so we stayed at elwood a coup couple of hours to rest our teams and came on home reaching here at 7 while the weather was cold and somewhat stormy everyone in fit the company declared that the trip had been a most pleasant one I 1 certain ly y enjoyed it thoroughly thorough aly I 1 hope lope that I 1 may have the pleasure of visiting these good people again in the near future dut cut if I 1 do not I 1 know I 1 shall always weilu retain a pleasant memory of ray my first visit |
