Show THE RECEPTION given by our teachers to visiting from the hast east ori od saturday morning a la larga porty party of school teachers from coto colorado rg do and indiana arrived in this city and put pat up at the metropolitan the party which numbered about seventy five was met at provo by a committee of teachers from this city headed by dr park in the afternoon they visited garfield and enjoyed a float on the dense waters of the lake returning in the evening their numbers were augmented considerably by the arrival of teachers from new york massachusetts pennsylvania illinois and other states en route for san ban francisco to attend the national teachers convention arrangements had bad been made to tender the visitors a reception at their hotel and a brief pro ro L Kramme ramme of speeches and other exercises had been prepared As commissioner williams who was to give the address of wel come in behalf of our teachers and others who were on the pro gramme tailed failed to put in an appearance a somewhat tedious wait ensued but finally about 10 09 clock county superintend eai ed stewart caned called the assembled teachers to order and introduced prot J E talmage of provo who gave a neat address ol of welcome prof L S cornell state superintendent of schools of colorado replied in behalf of the visitors short addresses were then given by prot prof benner of this city prot thomas of indiana prof paul of the deseret U university niver sity dean shaddock of the colorado if university prot prof N H schaeffer principal of the state normal school ot of pennsylvania dr woodward the apostle of manual i st louis and superintendent dougherty doughergy of illinois illinois all spoke in praise of our city lake and climate and seemed much pleased with the manner in which they had been received and treated by our people this ended the pro gramme and the social chat was resumed interspersed with music songs recitations etc until near midnight when the party dispersed yesterday most of the visiting teachers attended services at the tabernacle and today will resume their journey westward |
