Thursday, September 5. 2013 University Journal Page 13 Golf teams compete in first events By JOSH MARTINEZ martinezsuunews com The SUU men's golf team began their season at Weber States Battle of the Tetons on Monday and Tuesday, while the womens golf team teed off at the Weber State Invitational on Friday. Both teams finished in third place in their respective tournaments. Weber States Battle of the Tetons (Men) SUU golfer Jake Holt shot a 214 to tie for third as the SUU mens golf team placed third out of eight teams, with an overall team score of 873, in Weber States Battle of the Tetons tournament on Monday and Tuesday in Victoi, Idaho. Holt moved up in the rankings after shooting rounds of 74 and 69 on Monday, and following that up with a round of 71 on Tuesday. This placed Holt four shots behind of University Wyomings Kamnn Allen and two shots behind Utah Valley Universitys Brayden Eriksen. The entire team didnt travel to Pocatello, Idaho, but the still found success winning on the mens side and competing down to the wire or, the womens side. The men and women competed in two different events, with the men running 6,000-meteand the women running 3,000-meter- s. On the mens side for the Anthony Brown had the fastest time overall, running a 19:15.00 in the 6K. Browns time was only four seconds faster than teammate Sean Newcomb, who finished in second place with a time of 19:19.00. After SUU finished first and second, the Bengals took the number three and four spots. KC Hunsicker finished at 19:21.00, which put him in third, and Ray Miller took fourth place for ISU, with a time of 19:38.00.
