Show A SINGULAR discussion A PECULIAR discussion took place in yesterdays session ol of the general conference of the methodist church now being held in new york the question was on the admission of certain ladies as lay delegates to seats on the floor ot of the assembly the committee to which the subject was referred reported adversely to the proposition and a lively debate ensued the position taken by the committee com mutee prevailed we have nothing to say with regard to the manner in which the methodist church conducts its business that is its own affair the public outside of its own pale have nothing to do with it it would be well it this attitude was assumed with regard to the church of jesus christ ol of latter day saints with whose internal business every busybody busy body religious and other wise considers it his prerogative to interfere ter fere it is interesting erestine Int Interest ins as a tact fact however that the question is likely to cause not only a good del deal ia of feeling in the he ranks of the methodists but berba perba perhaps ps no small degree of detection defection it a appears ae that at a district meeting mee ting of the t wo an suffrage association a resolution was adopted to the effect that it is the duty of every woman to withdraw from any church whose pastor the action on this subject of the general conference of the methodist denomination this resolution appears to be based the presumption that methodism has an exceedingly aligui hold upon those who have accepted it ILS as the religion of their choice it seems at this distance that it if the ladles ladies desire a reversal of the action of which hey complain this could hardly be d done e by belting boltl ny from tho tion an inside influence is infinite infinitely lv more potential in the generality of things then an outside pressure |
