Then the squad attends the National Cheerleading Association collegiate camp in August, for technique building, cheer instruction and friendly competition. We have to be totally dedicated, Poulsen said. Camp is really hard work since we learn so much in such a short time. The cheerleading season continues with football games right after camp, then into both mens and womens basketball. Then its time to prepare for spring tryouts, and the cycle continues. We want to travel to games, but we dont since there isnt enough in our budget, Poulsen said. According to Birch, all of the squads uniforms, shoes and expenses have to be paid for by the squad members themselves. The cheerleaders are willing to work hard despite the fact we receive no financial support from the athletic department, he said. Both Poulsen and Birch feel their responsibilities are much easier since they do receive so much support from the student body. I hope we can show our appreciation for what our school is doing this year. Student government has been doing a great job increasing spirit, and we expect to see more crowd participation at games, said Birch. We are a Division I university with Division I capabilities from this squad, he said, but financially we only have Division III support. Poulsen and Birch said that people should realize the dedication that the squad has the love for the school, because that is what keeps them involved in cheerleading. 'Hail eeUewtc& inoniwicii .
