Show THE THUNDERBIRD SUSC THURSDAY, MARCH 29, 1990 PAGE 5 Thunderbird Awards Night slated, applicants sought BY NATALIE SPARKS The annual Thunderbird Awards Night, honoring outstanding students and contributors to ASSUSC, is scheduled for May 4th at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium. The theme Celebrating a New Tradition was chosen to complement SLJSC s recent approval to a university. Thunderbird Awards is the most prestigious student sponsored event of the year, said Dave Duce, awards committee along with Tiffany Isom. Currently the students are asked to nominate two favorite personalities and two teachers of the year who have exemplified outstanding characteristics. The personality of the year is awarded to the student voted most personable, outgoing and friendly. Other nominations include: female male contributor of the year, Sterling SilverR. Kenneth Benson Awards, ir Organization of the Year, and Adviser of the Year. Femalemale contributor of the year is given to the individual who has contributed the most to the student body. Six male and female students will be nominated by the student body. Nominees are to be interviewed, then a panel of judges will select the winner. Performer of the year is nominated by department heads in respective departments for the students who have performed the best. Resumes given by the applicants are then judged and reduced to the top five. The theatre departments five nominees perform at the awards ceremony. Candidates for organization of the year will submit a resume of what they exemplified this year through their service and achievement. A panel of judges will make the final decision. Resumes should be turned in at the Student Activities office. Adviser of the year is nominated by the clubs in a resume form noting how the person has demonstrated excellent guidance, and has shown sincere concern for students. The winner is selected by the selections committee. Sterling SilverR. Kenneth Benson (retired director of student activities) Award are the most prestigious Awards Night. Winners are awards presented at chosen for their academic achievements, leadership abilities, and their service to the college. Nominees must have a GPA of 3.6 or higher and 120 accumulated credit hours to qualify. The five finalists in each area are chosen by a selections committee. Those interested should submit a resume to Student Activities. Nominees will also need to have an interview.
