Carter, associate provost for academic programs and SUSCs dean of summer school, concerning plans to upgrade SUSCs ranch and the surrounding area. SUSCs cabin, located 12 miles west of Cedar City has been undergoing expansion and renovation as the result of a project initiated by SUSC to restore and upgrade the area for college use. The cabin was originally built in 1954 by SUSC faculty but deteriorated due to the lack of sufficient resources needed to continue construction and maintain the project. Future project goals include drastic size increases, improved recreation and picnic areas and the completion of additional cabins to house guests attending workshops or seminars at the college ranch. Improvements planned for the near future include the completion of two pavilions, a water system, parking accommodations, landscaping and an amphitheatre. A new kitchen, restrooms, and a dorm will be added to the cabin in June to make a more comfortable atmosphere for guests. Officials estimate complete renovation will cost $180,000. Cabin improvements are funded primarily by private monetary and labor donations. Several and businesses, including Utah Power U.S. West, have donated materials and services.
