Some 4,300 fans are treated to a big night in the Centrum via CONCERT REVIEW BY LYNN HOLT Saturday was southern Utahs night out; and while the Centrum is still standing today, the Judd girls came closer to shaking its rafters than anyone has before or will again. concert, the Judds that Headlining a monster triple-bil- l mother-daughtphenomenon joined together at the lips gave fans a taste of the sound that revived southern Utah 4,300 country music. Since the release of their first album in 1984, the Judds mother Naomi and daughter Wynonna have recorded three platinum albums and 12 number one country singles. Theyve picked up three Grammy awards, and theyre nominated for another this year. Their music has been largely responsible for lifting country music out of its doldrums. But the gals from Kentucky were having too much fun Saturday night to be weighed down with all that prestige. They were Marsha and Carol Brady hamming it up at a PTA talent show although infinitely more talented than their sitcom counterparts. And thats what made Saturdays performance so incredible. Judds, southern Utahns saw and heard country artists Steve Wariner and Skip Ewing. triple-bi- ll and they seem to enjoy their performance as much as the fans do. Weve been in Utah three nights, and this is without a doubt the most immature crowd weve had and I like that, said Wynonna midway through the show. Naomi and Wynonna entered a sparse, clean stage singing the uptempo I Know Where Im Going. Wynonna was clad in her trademark black with white lace. And Naomi, a porcelain doll in her 40s, donned outrageously fluffy neon yellow chiffon. Is Utah ready to do a little rockin with the rhythm? .asked Wynonna as they eased into the title track of their third album. Throughout this number and throughout the concert mother Naomi orbited around the stage, flirting with d the crowd and harmonizing while the daughter took care of business center stage. The duo proceeded to sing a bevy of number one country hits, and they introduced two new songs from a album due out in March, the tough and gritty One Man Woman and the cruising tune Cadillac Red.
