Show 6 PACE THE THUNDERBIRD MONDAY NOVEMBER 2, 1987 City polls open tomorrow lacdFime BY ANNETTE Elections for the Cedar City Council will be tomorrow. Alan Hamlin, SUSC professor of business, is a frontrunner in the race for the three council seats as a result of last month's primary elections. The primaries narrowed the list of 10 candidates to six. Steve Sevy, Dennis Johnson, Mary Fullmer, Evan Vickers and Forrest Hunter are on the new roster, listed in order according to primary results. Many SUSC students are Cedar City residents, but only a few vote in civic elections, said Hamlin. In the district north of 200 North, only two couples under 30 years of age voted in the primaries. All of the candidates expressed their concern about student involvement to an Oct. 28 meeting with the ASSUSC Executive Council. All agreed that the students should have a voice in the city government by voting. "Students should exercise their constitutional right to vote," said Hamlin. "I think it's the student's civic responsibility"You (students) need representation. Sometimes things are misunderstood at the college because of lack ot communication," said Hunter. "Things can be worked out." "I think there's an untapped resource there (SUSC) that can be utilized," said Johnson. "A lot of things can be done." Johnson and Hamlin said that students may join committees such as the industry committee, which brings in new ideas on how to attract industry to Cedar City and create jobs. All of the candidates list creation and attraction of industry in their platforms as being the most important issues to Cedar City. Registered voters can contact the Chamber of Commerce or City Offices for voting information. 2 CRISP BEAM BEJBF2STOS TRY OUR NEW PUMPKIN EMPANADAS! a great hol'day treat REMEMBER MONDAY NIGHTS ALL FOOD ITEMS ARE HALF PRICE. 5:00 P.M.
