An SUSC junior pursuing a career as an international heart recipient surgeon is the 1986-8of the colleges prestigious Institutional Council Scholarship. Konstantinos Kon Kontagiannis, son of Nicholas and Nicky Kontogiannis, Athens, Greece, was nominated by the SUSC School of Science for the $1000 scholarship which is made through contributions of Institutional Council members. A nominee from each of the colleges four academic schools competes for the award each year. Kontagiannis has maintained a near straight A average in d his studies while participating in numerous campus activities. He has served as secretary of the college's International Club and worked as a senior staff writer for The Thunderbird. He was recently elected to the ASSUSC Senate as a school of science senator. Kontogiannis has always been interested in cardiology and was drawn to Utah because of the research at the University of Utah. He originally planned to attend SUSC only two years but, after one year, decided to complete his entire undergraduate program in Cedar City. His efforts have been rewarded twice before with academic and departmental scholarships.
