Im referring to the statement made by Chief Andersen of the Cedar City Police We believe he Department, George Hamilton, a suspect in the Sharon Sant murder case was in the military at one time. What difference? I bring this point up because of the concern of myself and other veterans and military officers on campus that are disturbed by comments like these. Weve been true to ourselves, our families and our country and its a shame that people in general have to associate military service with some kind of warped personality that would commit such bizarre murders like the Sant one. This is an injustice to those millions of good people that have honorably served their country. We are people too and whatever causes these persons to commit such violent acts as this one is something that they have chosen to do, not their church, their school, or what service they may have been involved with. They should have to pay if guilty and not anyone else. Steve Jarvis Spirit Banner was wrongly awarded POLLS OPEN FROM 7:00 A.M. TO 6:00 P.M. TO THE EDITOR: On February 10, it was my privilege to watch a very exciting Thunderbird Basketball Game. There were several events prior to and during the game that caused me great concern. Upon arriving I found what I thought were good seats three rows from the floor. After a short period of time a group of young men clad in shorts and sheets informed the people sitting in front of me that they had to move, because those seats belonged to the baseball team. There was nothing and no one to indicate any prior possession. As the game got under way I and those around me had to move in order to see past standing baseball players and hear over their catcalls. After I moved I thoroughly enjoyed the game until the last five minutes when these same voung men got up and moved behind our opponents backstop, again forcing people to move from their seats. When the Spirit Banner was awarded it was given to the baseball team. This leads me to believe that sportsmanship holds no part in the awarding of the spirit banner. The Spirit Banner seems to be awarded on the basis of who makes the most noise and the biggest spectacle. To me, Thunderbird Spirit is more than making an ass of my self, tearing down the opposing team, and making those around I me uncomfortable. feel Thunderbird Spirit should mean Fair play, cheering for our team, and not making those around me feel uncomfortable.
