Show The Tfumderbwd Tuesday September 25, 1984 Page 7 Price: Could it be magic? Student body president plans productive reign by Wendy Barraclough Magic may be a little of what ASSUSC President Scott Price could bring to SUSC this year. I love stage magic, and big productions, and I also enjoy what Im doing here. I like the pressure that I have, working with good people, and I accomplish. It all fits in with the New Traditions idea. We plan to do this through our social and academic programs, such as the fraternities, a graduate interview program, help for student tenants, financial aid and academic advisement. Price is an Interpersonal Communications major, and has Buisness Administration as a minor. I have a good sense of accomplishment. ideas and plan to be an entrepreneur in sales and Price has brought many new marketing, and I have some different has made some changes to the student offices. We have a lot of catching up to business ideas. It would be unrealistic to do, compared to the larger colleges, and name one definite career, Im not a one career man. universities. Really, there are a lot of things Id like example is bringing two national to try. I dont want to limit myself to fraternities, Sigma Nu and Phi Kappa a have one career, Price said. we to and sorority Phi, hope soon. Magic is a favorite hobbie for the ASSUSC president. I spend a lot of money on it. I took a magic workshop in California when I was ten and I would like to really enjoy it. I like the when I have to sit down ' 7 market for a traveling magic show or sell for a business.. said Scott Price. The Torrance, California, native moved to Cedar City in the seventh grade and graduated from Cedar High. During his high school years, Price was involved in debate and forensics and during his junior year in college was debate captain. The fact that Price had no previous student government experience did not stop him from running for president. The main reason I ran was because I was not satisfied with the student leadership at the time. I realize now that we have a lot of catching up to do, what we are doing now is remedial, not initiative. The people that were recruited to work in the student offices were chosen for their leadership abilities, not because they had previous government experience, according to Price. The group I have to work with is excellent. Im really excited about working with them because there are so many new ideas, and theyre such a talented group. The student government leaders attended a leadership workshop September 20 through 22, held at Brian Head, where they received advice and consultation. Our leadership conference was titled New Traditions. New, because the projects havent been here before and Traditions, because we hope to see them continued, said Price. Developing enduring standards of excellence for student government is the main thing Price would like to larger-productio- and think it through. Price has an ability to create new tricks as well as perform them. I do have a new trick that Id like to try out sometime this year, he said. I pick anyone from the audience, give them a deck of cards from which they choose one card and place it in their pocket. Then on stage I have a telephone and a telephone book, (both of which can be inspected by AT&cT to prove its not rigged). The person who chose the card now picks any number from the Student Body President Scott Price may pull a few tricks out his sleeve telephone book, which is then dialed, this year or at least he wants to. Price plans on implementing many new and whoever answers the phone programs to student government, and has already introduced a tenant chooses any card, which happens to match the one in the pocket of the organization and leadership seminar. person on stage, he said. Developing enduring standards of excellence for student government is the main thing Price would like to accomplish. With all of the things Pric wants to accomplish, the three things h would like to leave as his legacy are the new student tenant program, the graduate interview program and the academic service center under Steve Wright. Im excited for this coming year and if anyone feels their needs demand more from the student government, they should feel free to talk to any of their class representatives, or come in and visit, said Price. |
