father written elder A S johnson whose P 0 address is romme borne ga I 1 arrived in this vicinity on the ath enst a distance of miles from which was quite a weary tramp for this season beason of the year the country over which had lo 10 travel being heing very rouga rough broken and mountainous ho however ever I 1 arrived as early in the month as I 1 calculated when I 1 left home or what I 1 call my headquarters in Gb georgia L found lound and made friends on the route as also in the tho neighborhood upon my arrival so that I 1 have had land the necessaries of life supplied and a place to lie down and rest when night came ou on there has been belen a bitter opposition brought to bear against me and our principles since my arrival for many days I 1 was unable to procure a church or bouee in which to hold hoid my meetings and was of necessity compelled to hold the first two services in a private house which were well attended by ord ordery erty erfy attentive listeners on the evening of the second meeting hn old gentleman a aplist deacon being present I 1 got permission from him to use their church on last sunday bonday however as might have been expected satan raged the members of said church raised many objections to my holding service in their house and came to me personally and tried to get me to give up the appointment which had been given out for sunday at 11 II a in I 1 told those that came to me about it that it was all in vain their talking to me in any such way as I 1 had received permission from the proper authorities to use the church and calculated to speak to those who came out to hear and would not give up my appointment unless those who had given me permission to use the house rescinded the same they went to the old gentleman and tried to get him to put a 11 stop to my preaching in the church but he be emphatically told them he lie had given me leave to uge use uee the li house ouse and he was willing I 1 should doso boso do so I 1 had the privilege of addressing large audiences of attentive listen era at 11 a m and a ad p m no thing tran transpired durin during g the services cervices ber vices to mar the penca peace and quiet of any one and as I 1 will nod not abe allowed to use the house any more on account of the remainder objecting to it 14 1 would have been in a bad fix but for a gentleman a member of the same bame church who voluntarily offered to fit up a large vacant house bouso of his own which is standing empty so cousee you see by next sunday all being well I 1 will be nixed fixed so far as a house houge is concerned I 1 will be able to ci carry rry on my meetings aa RS usual for he says I 1 can a ao cupy it and preach there as often as I 1 please the weather is unusually hot for for this time of year BO so say those living in this thia part of the country and I 1 believe what they say to be true rue if I 1 am allowed to be a judge of hot weather the country ia Is broken and mountainous in this part of SL clair glair county the princ prine pal crops are corn and cotton which niia are looking some somo better than usual I 1 am informed by planters the cholera has almost cleared lula thia portion of 0 the country of hogs chickens turkeys etc and owing to the low price of cotton last fail fall many are in very cose close ces the staple of life being corn bread bacon and some sorn e coffee still stul th they y continuo continue looking forward for the the tho good times promised by the politicians who when running for office made such fair promises providing they only got them the seat and title of member of congress they would guarantee that their land would now flow with milk and honey and ten dollar bills which are still in the future and the people in the same condition if not worse eoff off than heretofore I 1 a am in I 1 in n hopes to be able to do some good heie heze in this thia immediate vicinity but cannot tell teji how much can be done until I 1 have buve thoroughly tested the tho thing bya byn by a practical experiment of laying the principles of the gospel before the people yet I 1 am hopeful that by the blessing of the lord much good will sooner or later be accomplished here I 1 learn that there hns hag been a charge brought against the deacon of the church which I 1 occupied last sabbath as also the members of tho the church who gave their consent for mo me to use the house I 1 have an appointment out to preach tonight to night also next nest thur thurs day evening and next sunday many are making what appears to be earnest enquiry after the principles of the truth and I 1 have more invitations to visit and converse upon the doctrines of our faith than I 1 have felt ablerto abie able to attend to and do justice to myself my seif self my health is only tolerable still I 1 iam lam am determined to push forward and do all that I 1 can to spread the truth s CO coalville ALvILLE summit county J june jure 25 1879 r editors deseret dews jews t A A 1 7 treatment I 1 give you an account of the successful of my last two cases Whew feeding the stock one of oy cows slipped into the open opeil doors and into a back entry where stood the meal eliest chest she was not noi discovered until she had fully gorged herself when found she was put into a stable and given six bix drops of or aconite first tincture in a littfe littie water arid and then was immediately given halt half a teaspoonful of powdered mandrake roote root dry on the tongue by night she was voiding meal iteal fre freely ey and was let out two days afterwards I 1 gave her about half a bucket of water on the second day she was confined in the stable and was given bufil Buffi clent water to satisfy her at the close of the third day though she required very little about a bucket and und a halt half I 1 believe the other case was one in which a cow obtained access to threshed wheat dur during ingall all nil one day I 1 knew nothing of it until the next morning I 1 then gave her ten drops of aconite and half a teaspoonful of powdered marid mandrake rake root dry on the he tongue she began voiding wheat thit that night and continued for or four days daya though of course less appeared ppe ared during duning the latter part of the time I 1 gave her a second dose of f aconite on the evening of the first day and two doses the second day I 1 also gave her about a quarter of a teaspoonful ot the root the morn mornings ingi of the tha second and third days though I 1 cannot say it was necess necessary ir on the second day about noon moon I 1 gave gaya her half a bucket of water and the same quantity once each eack day as long as she was waa kept kepi in lit the stable I 1 have heard beard of cattle being deprived of water for a week I 1 under like circumstances but where they seem to be doing all ri night right I 1 like to give them a little in neither of the cases reported was there any permanent shrin gago of the flow of milk though they ravo gave very little while getting no feed and little water I 1 hope any one BO so unfortunate as to be obliged to have recourse to some such measures will lii give the above a trial and report the results because six bix or ten drops of aconite do good do not give twenty five or thirty thinking that quantity will do more ore good any one disposed to give such buch doses can satisfy himself they
