council presidents of Quorum Qu st and and others after the usual exercises bishop burton said he could truly say it was a pleasure to meet with the saints in this stake under such favorable circumstances cum stances lie he referred to the present situation situ ution of the saints and how we naturally felt to retaliate but gaid eaid thal thai was not a right feeling and that we ought not to entertain it he referred to the history of the saints while livia living in missouri and illin illinois ois and contrasted the same with the pr present nt said the persecutions had a tendency y to unite this people le and referred f to the stace aad con condition I 1 of the saints when called to start on their journey over the plains considered etwas it was necessary for this people to come here to these mountains and establish themselves in this country god had a hand in this and caused everything that transpired to result in blessings to the saints we ought to thank god for the perse cautions we are now enduring advised the saints to toi settle all their difficulties accordia according to the gospel plan seek to have patience and charity toward one another and advised the bishops when settling difficulties to be unbiased and give alv e justice to all ail apostle taylor aylor I 1 said he was pleased with the remarks of bishop burton and bore testimony to the same he narrated incidents in his travels since he last met with the saints ot of this stake which were very interesting and were fiste listened lied ried to with great attention after singing benediction was offered by bishop W V B preston at 2 pm after sin singing tring and prayer b by y patriarch taomas hicken rickert bishops duke D uke clegg nuttall and MOOD moon reported p orreh their various wards where 9 the evening there was a priesthood meeting at which there was a full attendance the speakers were prest hatch bishop Pre preston stong stony apostle taylor and bishop burton their remarks were practical on every day duties and calculated to prove beneti benell cial to the priesthood of this stake on sunday at 10 am the meeting opened with singing and prayer by prest john M murdock bishop preston addressed the congregation gre gation ile he considered the most important things for us to think about are those that pertain to everyday every dav day life and practice repentance was a a principle we needed to act upon and that we put off the sins ot of commission as well as omission thought r atwould be well to ask ourselves our oui selves a few questions ions lons such as CIO do we nest gest keep beep holy the sabbath day do we visit the sick do we deal justly with all men and avoid taking advantage of those who are not of us do we pay our gur tithes and offerings in the times and seasons and in the thereof do we train our children aright and arid seek to exercise e charity charty to those around us are our children taught at home to pay their tithing and and offerings s do we attend our fast meetings every esery ery month and do we see that our children attend to sunday and week day s thought too many people moved about too much and were never contented said this land laud would never be the land of zion to us unless we paid our tithes and offerings earnestly recommended the saints to attend to these things and instructed the priests to go from house to house preaching the gospel and administering the sacrament to the sick and those who could not come to meeting his discourse was f full fuli uli all of wise teachings and abd able coun counsel sei sel apostle taylor referred to the passage of scripture which reads search the scriptures for in them ye think ye have eternal life and they are they that te testify of me I 1 I 1 he dwelt at some length and by elber elder geo wilson during the afternoon af after ter the us asual ual exercises the sacrament ent was administered and counselor J watkin s reported the midway ward and counselor bays the Charle charie as prospering the general and local authorities of the church and this stake were presented to the conference and anani I 1 sustained the remainder of the afternoon was occupied by prest hatch elder L H hatch and bishop I 1 burton in giving good instructions and words of counsel the meetings were wera crowded 4 the speakers had bad the spirit of the gospel and the saints felt to rejoice exceed 1 angly prest hatch in behalf of the saints thanked the brethren for coming and invited them to come again thanks were also given to the choir for the excellent music they had had bad
