Show missionaries NEW YORK may 16 1884 editor deseret it affords me much pleasure and devout thankfulness to my heavenly father to announce to my numerous friends both in and around the city I 1 love su so well that myself and fellow travelers arrived safe in this city yesterday thursday at 7 7 a am in we are twelve in number viz geo goddard heber S goddard goddard robert diar Alar marshall ishall and net nel L J nuttall jr as missionaries sion slon annes anies and david james and daughters mary uary 31 aryAnn ann and nettle eliz ellz elizabeth a hopwood and daughter jessie jessle also emily emliy atkins and daughters mar mary rienk ann and I 1 florence on a visit to friends f in the old country etc we all went to the a bove above named hotel and met with our mutual friend and brother james 11 hart who kindly advised us the best way to proceed during the nive five 11 e days da s we had to remain we expect to leave this city next tuesday mav 20 by the steamer wyoming 1 I I 1 Y ont ing for the land of our nativity a and nd the scene of our further labors it Is 33 years since bince I 1 left my kindred and country most of us traveled in sleeping cars to this city comfort and security being the chief consideration during our travel several opportunities were afforded myself and elder marshall to converse freely with ladles ladies and gentlemen on the principles of bur our holy religion 11 lon ion and to whom cards were given with etli my address on one side and the articles of our faith on the other I 1 strongly recommend all elders leaving home whether on missions or otherwise to carry with them a good su supply ply of such cards and watch for sul sui suitable suitable table tabie opportunities to place them as silent messengers of salvation in the hands of those who are both wil wll willing lino and thankful ul to receive and read the them M the rank prejudice and total ignorance that prevail among the thousands that we meet with in regard to us and our faith is my only apology for the above suggestion let us scatter the words of life we met mt with no hin derence from washouts wa shouts we enjoyed good health good feelings and the good spirit of th the lord eLord we we realize that god our heavenly father shielded and alid protected us and caused everything to turn out forthe for the best we traveled from ogden to kansas via denver bythe by the union pacific R R there per chicago and rock island from kansas city to ch chicago can 0 1 and from thence per chicago L at atlantic t l c new anew york pennsylvania ohio erie K R it to this city we ve passed through portions of utah and wyoming territories also the states of colorado kansas blisso missouri url uri iowa illinois indiana ohio pennsylvania new jersey and aud new york in passing through so many states and over such a vast scope of countr yit kept us busy by daylight to note the wonderful variety the face of nature presented and the almost innumerable small and large towns we passed through we were much pleased with the cities of denver and kansas especially the latter which contains over inhabitants although h the route was about 2 miles longer than the one via omaha hay has the increased speed was such that no longer time was consumed ou on ou our r journey GEORGE GODDARD |
