the worl woride devery very man uc cording according to their works according to that which is written there is much more ot the next chapter chapt erand and of the preceding chapter that pertains to our time to the day and aldage age in which we live and these c chapters a wa with many more are full fuli of predictions re I 1 s by t the e prophet ro heane neplir it con corning tile the da days s when the book ook of mor mormon on should come forth this morning if I 1 can have the spirit of god to lead and to assist meto speak somewhat upon tha pre dictions contained in the book of mormon the predictions which had to be fulfilled after the publication of the book it is alleged as you know that the book of marroon is not an inspired record but that joseph smith if he was the author of it copied a great deal deai of it from the old and newles cament now there is sea scarcely reely teely any arly need to say to those who have studied the book of mormon who have read it prayerfully and carefully there is sear scar scarcely cely any need to say to them that it contains the internal evidence of its own divinity that god wrote it through gh inspired men and that no one but an 1 inspired man or men could have written the book there is no nd book in the eng english lish language that compares with it unless it be books which contain the pure word of god it has the advantage of the bible in this that it was translated by the power of god not by the learning of ma man and not selected from hu hundreds and thousands of versions as the bible has been for there is no end to the versions which exist of ef the books con tallied in the bible of cour course seme seve we have our version translated by learned men but there is scarcely a passage of any importance in t the lie lle bible concerning is not some dispute among learned commentators but with the book of mormon it is different god preserved those records for a purpose purpose in himself they were hid hidden ex up this book called the book of mormon is 14 an abridgement abridge ment prepared by one of the last prophets of tho the ne K e philes under the command of god that it might come forth in the last da days s god revealed in part to him and to I 1 his Is son moroni the purpose that he had in view in making this abridge ment and in con concealing it in tho earth jand and the they performed tho labor connect ltd ted led with wit this under the tob direct oom oem mimi d mand and inspiration of the almighty to come forth in the latter times and to td accomplish a great work I 1 wish to allude to some of the predictions not those that arc are contained in other books but those that are arc original with the book of mormon itself and that could not riot have been made unless the man who wrete them was InspIre inspired dof of god rewords the words that I 1 have read were written by nephi one of the first prophets odthe the nation and he describes at great length and with wonderful plainness and minuteness the condition of the inhabitants of the earth at the time that this work should go forth much aluch of this the ca viller may say could have been written by a man of these d days dass ays but t there here are some things which nephi wrote that could been written by a modern man who did not have the spirit of prophecy and that which I 1 have read in your hearing is a part that could not have been written by any human being unless he had been inspired of god and was a prophet of god if joseph smith if tile tiie divinity of his mission if his claims to be a prophet rested upon this chapter alone or tills portion of the chapter that I 1 I 1 have read in your hearing ac according cordin to my view his claims would be full fuli fully and indisputably est established establish ablis hed for the reason that at the time that he translated this chapter he had bad no conception neither could any human beffie being have have any conception unless inspired of god as to the effect the publication of the book of aarmon would have upon the gentino gentie 0 world but joseph inspired of god translated the prediction of nephi which prediction states that when the book of of mormon should be published it should be received by the gentiles with this expression 1 S l bible I 1 la a bible I 1 we have got a bible and there cannot be any anymore bible bibie 11 how many t times imes has this expression been made b by clergymen by professors of religion and a ild lid by christendom generally since the he publication of the book 0 of f mormon ye elders who have traversed sea and land who have gone from continent to continent who have visited the isles of the ocean who wiio h have ave lifted up your voices in the cities of the Gent Gentiles lles lies and in their congregations ye elders who have thus labored know full well that in every land and mong among every ever y I 1 people where you yon have I 1 labored when you have spoken about G god od having restored another reco record rd t the he book of mormon you kno kuo know vv that you have been met with these expressions the literal words that nephi said would be used in the last days by the gentiles in regard to this work you latter day saints who have endeavored deavo red to teach your friends the doctrines that god had bad revealed and endeavored to show them that god had restored this ancient record you know how your our testimonies have b been f en received calved concerning the book of mormon these remarkable expressions have come from thousands thou theu sands of lips in lii many many lands and inmany in many iuan inan many ian lan languages bages confirmatory 0 of the book i and of its inspired translation you read all the words of nephi in this 2 chapter and you u will find that he describes with wonderful rf ua and I 1 might say photographic graphic ic accuracy and minuteness the condition of the so feo called christian world the spirit that crimes of which they are guilty the condition ili in which they are placed and all the circumstances connected with hem helu in his hig next chapter he makes further remarks concerning this work w ork and the effect it should have he says 3 and now I 1 would prophecy somewhat more concerning the jews and the gentiles for after the which I 1 have spoken shall come forth and be written unto the gentiles and sealed up a again a n unto the lord I 1 there shall be many which c T shall belles beiles 0 th the words which are written and they shall carry them forth unto the remnant of our seed 4 and then shall the remnant of our seed know concerning us how that wo we came out from jerusalem and that they are descendants of the jews 5 and the gospel of jesus christ shall be declared among them wherefore they shall shail be restored unto the knowledge of their fathers a th 8 and nd als ais also aiso 0 to the knowledge of jesus christ kd t which I 1 h was wa had a among niong their fathers 6 and t then h shall shail h an they rejoice for tor they shall know that it is a blessing unto them from the hand of god and their scales of darkness shall begin to fall from their eyes I 1 and many generations shall not pass awa away among them save they shall be a white and delightsome people now that is one prediction these are the words of nephi I 1 will now read the words of jesus recorded in the tile irth chapter of the III lii book of nephi where lie ile in speaking about the last days and the comin coming forth of this work says and thus com mandeth the father rather that nim I 1 should say unto you yon at at that day when the gentiles shall sul bul em against m my Y gospel and shall be lifted up in the pride of their heart heal ts S above all nations and above all the people of the whole earth and shall be tillei filled with will all manner of and of deceits dece its and of mis chiefs and all manner of hypocrisy and murders and priest rafts crafts an and Whore donis doms and of secret abominations and it if they shall do all those thin things s and shill reject the gl falness of my go gospel behold saith the eather rather I 1 will bring the fullness of ny my gos pel from among them and ind then I 1 will remember my covenant which I 1 have made unto my people 0 house honse of israel and I 1 will b bring jig my gospel unto them and and I 1 will shew unto thee 0 house 0 of f israel that tho the gentiles shall not hav e pow er over you but I 1 will re remember m ember my ni cove nant unto you 0 house of israel and ye 5 e shall shail come unto the knowledge of thefil the sul sui ness nets of my gospel goepel these predictions are parallel aral arai lel lei the they point to the same perlor period they d describe esl esi the samo same cwm CUM the bannio condition of affairs ono uttered WO odo years or thereabout there thore abd about tsi tol before the tha other othon andyes and yet jet they are precisely similar in their tenor describing that lat which should be done doue with wilh the gospel among tile the gentiles I 1 wish you all to remember you latter day saints you young tittle oung men and oti you oil young women you little children who aro nrc capable of understanding der standing my words 1 I wish you all to remember that at the time this was written or rather at the time this was translated into the tho English language say somewhere about the year 1828 1838 joseph smith himself hadnot had not received or at least obeyed the gospel lie ile had bad derived some knowledge of it through the ministration of angels and from that portion of the record that he had translated and there was not a latter day saint upon the face of the whole earth that we know anat anything hing about or that lie he knew anything about no manor manon man or woman had received the tile gospel no church had been organized no priesthood from the eternal worlds had been bestowed not a man aniola ani among oll oil all the children of men had bee been n clothed with the power of the eternal priesthood of the son of god to administer the ordinances of ife and salvation unto tile the mii children dren of men yet the prophet josepn smith in this translation showed forth with great reat clearness that the gospel would be revealed and that it should be received by some of the gentiles that when it should be received by the gentiles it should be carried by them to the descendants of nephi and his breth rqn who by that time should hae have become a athy and a loathsome people the indians of our continent should receive the message of life and salvation the gospel should be carried to them they would receive it with gladness they would come to a knowledge of their redeemer as welt sell as to a knowledge of the principles and doctrines and covenants which their fathers understood and which their fathers had received wonderful prediction I 1 and most wonderfully has it been been fulfilled at the time that the T prophet joseph smith translated this book of mormon I 1 suppose the impression was general as it is today to day that the indians were a perishing race that they would soon disappear from the face of the land but before joseph had translated this he had found in previous predictions that the gentiles that is our nation that we as a race and the nation to which we belong should not have power to destroy the indians this was a most remarkable statement to make when we consider where joseph was brought up and the circumstances surrounding him if he had not been inspired of god he would not have dared in my opinion andl no man would have dared to have made such a prediction but what does nephi sav say concerning this matter as translated by the prophet he says nevertheless thou thon beh behold oldest est cst that tile tiie gentiles who have gone one forth out ot of captivity and have been lifted up by the power of god above all other nations upon the face of the land which is choice above all other lands lauds which is the land the lord god hath covenanted with thy father that his seed should lave thou seest that the lord god will not suffer that the gentiles will utterly destroy the mixture of thy seed which are among th thy brethren laither lk ither will he suffer that the gentiles shall destroy the seed of thy brethren neither will lie he |
