august 20 1883 editor deseret news in my last letteri letter I 1 gave you a description of this place with its surrounding forests and picturesque landscape but by the way I 1 forgot to mention the fountains of water some of which contain rich medicinal properties three miles west of thia this place is found the wonderful crusenbury Cusen cuben bury springs springe whose waters are charged with electricity and various minerals these springs together with the bethsaida mineral springs which are fitall still further west and within five miles of kansas city have become quite a bummer summer resort three years yeara ngo apo next november mcfather my father and I 1 visited adam ondi abman ahman or which Is more commonly known as ag Dl ahman ahmAD and is or wag was situated on the bluffs of grand river kiver daviess county mo according to the tho revelation this is the place where the ancient of days shail bhail sit fit BB as spoken of by daniel the prophet s from the top of a high bluff we had a splendid view of the valley of the grand river or what might be called tile the tiie valley of 0 adam ondi ahman for according to the revelation it is the place where adam dwelt d wel wei t this place has also changed chan chau ged instead of a thrifty prosperous mormon settlement it is now a forest of young timber and owned by a mr mcdonald MoDo who occupies the only house we could bee pee this hjul Is sald said to have belonged to the saints and that joseph smith has been therein on the top of the bluff above mentioned which overlooks the valley below and on its most prominent place is a dent or hollow surrounded with rocks which if I 1 heard beard the truth Is quite a curiosity for the ladys lady mrs me afo donald said that joseph smith the prophet had said paid that this was the grave of adam I 1 do not know how much credit can be given thib this story because there are so BO many erroneous stories credited to joseph joheph smith about for instance his hla alleged attempt to walk on the water of the missouri river etc that it may possibly be a hoax and probably is la the work of indian indians or mound build lull di ers erb as hey are called galaton is situated a few hiloa from drahman Dl ahman and is the place where the trouble commenced at the election when the mob forbade the 69 mormon citizens to the rights of franchise fran chisel consequently the affray that brought an armed mob into far west which was the beginning of the trouble that finally expelled them from the state states and was the cause of so lauch rauch suffering buffering and misery that will never be forgotten f by those who endured it the events of those dark days are doubtless fresh in the memories of hundreds of the citizens of utah today to day all that remains to mark the place where the historic city of far west once stood is the tho excavation that was made for tho the temple with a few surrounding rocks that were intended for the foundation also the ruins of an old tavern probably the place in which joseph smith lived liere elere here we were told was the garden of eden by an old man who heard that it was so called by joseph smith this is a most moat beautiful country and location the landscape 19 is is 19 even more beautiful than this place independence dependence rn we will now come to clay county which Is ia also prominent in the history of
