Vince Doryla . to be honoreJ Colorado To Honor Borylo w r ro, Deseret News Special DENVER Denver Boxing Club president, Vince Boryla, former and professional basketball player, will be inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame at the annual fete Feb. 5 in the Denver Hilton Hotel. n SURER QUID Gums r r r 1 N p More than 2,000 persons w ul be on hand to see Boryla and three other former Colorado spoils greats be inducted. Broadcaster Howard Cosell will be the guest speaker. Boryla gained fame as an X fr basketball Notre player at two schools Dame and Denver University before embarking on a glittering pro career with the New York Kmcks. Currently hes president of the American Basketball Association Utah Stars. In addition to his basketball duties, Boryla is president of the Denver Boxing Club, which currently promotes amateur and professional boxing in Denver. He was transferred to Lowry Air Base in Denver, and was selected as an AAU with the Denver Nuggets in both 1947 and 1948. He also starred on the United States Olympic basketball team m the 1948 London Games After leaving DU following the 1948-4season, Boryla signed with the New York Kmcks and was a star forward-cente- r for five years. He was team captain, also. After his playing career he served as coach for two years, Boryla and Denver sportsBill man and businessman Daniels helped to organize the International Boxing League in 1969, and established the Denver Rocks amateur boxing team. The same pair purchased the floundering Los Angeles Stars of the ABA in 1970 and moved the franchise to Salt Lake City.
