Show 12A DESERET NEWS, Friday, February 12, 1971 Sears school vote on two proposed of the ConstituRevision Commission Thursday afternoon adopted a resolution urging that the right of every citizen over 18 to vote in state and local elections be guaranteed by the state Constitution. This action won the votes of six', of nine members present at the meeting. Two members abstained from voting and one opposed the motion. of the Total membership commission is 1(1. OPPOSE ACTION Veil Topham pioposed the lesohtion. R"p. Allan E. Lake, in, opposed the action. B. Z. Hastier Jr. and Lewis H. Lloyd abstained from voting. In earlier action, the commission unanimously went on record favoring a vote by the people to decide whether persons over 18 should he allowed Members amendments because of the many proposed amendments which will be on me ballot at the next general election. MERGE DISTRICTS Deferment was recommend- tional ed for SJR2. which would remove constitutional requirements that cities of tire first and second class maintain separate school districts, and SJR3, which would remove the restriction against consolidating school districts across county lines. The commission also voted to recommend consolidation of amendments four proposed into a single amendment in the interests of simplifying procedure for public voting.
