Democrats kept control of the Utah ,Senate Tuesday, increasing their paper-thi- n margin of 4 to a more comfortable 2 lead. They recaptured all seven of their own Senate seats up for reelection this year and also took two of the eight Republican seats being contested. Biggest surprise was the loss by Sen. W. Hughes Brockbank, Lake, a four-tersenator, to a woman making her first bid for elective office. Mrs. Francis Farley, an administrative assistant at LDS Hospital, pulled out a narrow 9,586 to 9,449 a difference of only 137 upset over Brockbank votes. Mrs. Farley thus becomes the first woman to serve in the Utah Senate in two decades. Brockbank had served four terms as a senator and two as a member of the House and was considered one of the most influential legislators on the hill and an expert in financial and budeet matters. The vote battle up and down all night and Mrs. Farley didn't secure the victory until the very last voting district reported. The COP also lost a Senate seat in the District 28 where Democrat Thorpe Waddingham. a former legislator, took the seat formerly held by Sen. G. Stanford Rees, Res did !lot seek reeleeti.)n this year and Waddingham easily defeated Republican candidate Stanley Burgess by a 10,029 to 7,940 margin. American Party candidate Paul Turner received 1,553 votes. No other changes took place, although incumbents did not run in five districts. However. the party which had controlled the seat kept it with a new face. This happened twice tor the Democrats and three times for the GOP. Arthur L. Kimball. who ousted Sen. D.G. Brooke, Lake in a convention battle last summer, won a seat with a 7,920 to 4,971 vote over Bohol E. Buhler. Independent lohn Storey had 74 votes. Ken Pace, a convention winner over Sen.
