Just 4 gallons per flush Salt Lake county commissioners passed a new ordinance today that governs the water capacity for toilets, hiniting them to four gallons per flush. Beginning Jan. 1, 1977, no toilet with a larger, capacity can be installed in new construction of any type in the county. By Jan. 1. 1982. the regulation will apply to any waterthed or canyon contiguous to a watershed in the county. Ralph Miles, deputy state forester. said the fire in Coal Creek Canyon 25 miles northeast of Price. Carbon County, has cost about $50,000 and still is burning out of control. Carbon County officials had $3,500 in their budget for fire suppression. When counties run out of money, they can ask the state for 50 percent of suppression costs. said in the past the procedure has been to wait hduntil after the fire season is over so counties know what the entire fire suppression costs are before applying to the state for help. He is concerned about the fire situation because of the hot and dry weather. Miles said the fires on Antelope Island and near Deer Creek Reservoir might also cut into the fire suppression fund. "We've agreed to get out and stay out of the dump," Salt Lake County Commisioner Pete Kunnas said. Several hundred residents surrounding the former garbage and trash dump banded together last fall. hired an attorney and filed suit demanding the county close the dump. Residents complained of obnoxious odors from mysterious fires in the dry trash portion of the site and of cockroaches from the garbage area.
