Jack Carlson, Republican candidate for the U. S. Senate, told Magna residents that incumbent Sen. Frank E. is Moss, largely responsible for Congressional failure to provide authorization for funding of the Uintah Unit of the Central Utah Water Project. Failure of the federal body to include funding for the Uintah Unit could have been prevented had Moss been a member of the Senate Public Works Committee, Carlson said. Moss had an opportunity to sit on the committee, but refused. Carlson commended Sen. Jake Garn, for for discovering the mistake and drafting corrective legislation to properly provide project funding. Orrin Hatch, Republican candidate for U. S. senator, said proliferation of environmental laws and regulations on energy supplies have caused the Candidate tells campaign policy someone to represent the people instead of politicians making campaign promises in order to be reelected, said John Storey, candidate for the state senate from District Five, in announcing his campaign policy. Storey has filed to run as an independent under the Jackass Party label. He is a former American Party chairman for Salt Lake County and was impeached by the party following internal problems. We should put a stop to the public display of pornography and start punishing criminals instead of victims, he said. He also advocates a merit system for public officials, based upon reelecWe need reprints problems faced by the country today. A collective desire to have a cleaner natural environment has crystallized and become a national goal. In typical American fashion, we have inxisted on virtually instant results, he said. The results of this thinking have stymied development of fuel resources, including Utah coal. Before the Clean Air Act, it had been anticipated that use of coal would grow at about 4.4 percent annually. Instead, it has grown at only 1.3 percent, increasing reliance on petroleum fuels, he said. He called for a balance between the two concerns. Clinton R. Miller, Republican candidate for the U. S. Senate, told members of the Senior Citizens Speech Club there is no such thing as a free bus ride. When we ride free, someone has to pay for it. The free ride to Socialism is a ride to communism, he said. He called the Utah Transit system one of the most socialized, and hence most immoral bus systems in America. Miller stressed that citizens can take no more out of the government than is put into it, and said government which steals from the working man to give to others is corrupt. Yoth living in such a society learn indolence and immorality from the example, he said. Copies of Erma Bom-beck- attorney in Dist.
