The experimental project, which had been funded by 17 oil companies, was to have been discontinued this month. Robert Seamans, head of the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration (ERDA), said Monday the Department of Defense and ERDA have decided to contract with the Paraho Development Corp. to produce, refine kand store 100,000 barrels of shale oil over the next two years. Seamans said the project is designed to give the government more data on the production of fuels from shale oil. The oil firms had pumped $9 million into the demonstration project since Paraho was started in 1973 00 by Harry Pforzbeimer, an executive of Standard Co. of Ohio. Pforsheimer turned to the government after the private companies turned down his bid for further support. Seamans, at the news conference, also announced that large-scal- e oil shale development appears to be a long way off due to unsolved environmental and technical problems. He noted there is a tremendous amount of energy contained in western shale, most of it in Colorado. But anyone who looked at the kproblems realistically must question how rapidly we can develop oil shale, if we can at all, he said. Despite the problems, Seamans said ERDA is pressing hard for congressional approval of a $6 billion program to extend federal loan guarantees to oil shale and other synthetic fuels projects. A subscription price of $8 per share Gene Donovan, announced Monday. In converting from a mutual savings and loan association to a stock association, Prudential distributed 2,552,200 shares of stock to over 63,000 eligible account holders, he explained, and Dean Witter & Co., Inc., was retained to assess the value of the stork. The assessment has been completed on the basis of a study of the market and of the company. It. is interesting to note that at this subscription price, the aggregate market value of the free stock issued to stockholders amounts to $20,417,600, Donovan said. tion. Sales of stock were arranged for all shareholders of from 1 to 53 shares who desired to sell, Donovan said. In this way, the association reduced the number of stockholders. This was an economic consideration since the cost of servicing each shareholder has been computed at $5 a yi?ar. Donovan said the unsold shares of the larger shareholders who wanted to sell will help create an orderly market for the stock. He said Prudential will mail the stock certificates early next month. Checks will be mailed to those whose stock has been sold and to those who subscribed to buy stock and submitted advance payments of $10 per share. They will get the difference between the $8 subscription price and their $10 per share deposits. that stockholders apportioned less than 100 shares were offered the alternative of selling their shares at the subscription price to buyers designated as eligible to purchase stock at the subscription price. Under this arrangement, 378,800 shares of stock were taken up by He noted Croff seeks 1 4 oil leases to stockholders, W.D. Nebeker Jr., president of Croff Oil Co., said his firm has filed for 14 federal and state leases on the Overthrust Belt. The leases totaling 8,135 acres are located in four Idahocounties bordering Wyoming, and are adjacent to lease blocks held by larger oil companies. Croffs oil and gas royalties totalled $48,845 through April, which was 12 percent less than the amount received in the same period a year ago. medallion Marvin J.
