Rah! college football And USU will get their share of the Rah! Rah! Aggied head coach Phil Krueger has what he describes as the most talented team he has had en- tering this third year Due to lack of time (they only gave me one day) can't name the whole team But after the season is over will see that should so watch for the next Issue (good plug eh?) for a complete rundown of the I I I Ags On the football note the Aggies are facing one of the toughest schedules ever Powerhouses Florida State (MO in 1974 but lost to six teams that were invited to bowl games) Texas Arkansas (two Southwest conference giants) and a tough small college defending Big Sky champs Boise State dot the schedule with WAC schools Utah Wyoming BYU Colorado State Big Sky opponent Weber State and west coast rival San Diego State On a serious note Aggie trackster Mark Enyeart has proven that a small town boy can make It big in his home state Enyeart not only won the NCAA half mile championship but turned right around in his AAU debut and defeated world record holder Rick Wolhuter What can he do for an encore? Maybe win a gold medal for the US in Montreal? After doing well in European competition (before an injury in his foot sidelined him) Enyeart has what consider one of the best chances an Intermountain Area man has for bringing home that gold Keep an eye on him! (that is if you can keep an eye I on him) has that wrestling team got a sales-pitcWhile was casually cruising the fieldhouse in search of articles (and checking on the new female arrivals) heard two freshman guys exclaim after purchasing a new "I bought one of these things because with three of them there was afriad they'd beat the shit out of me if didn't" Boy h I I T-sh- irt I I doubt they would resort to that Coach Bob Carlson and his Aggie wrestling team are selling those shirts to try and pay their way to Japan This will be quite an accomplishment not only for USU but Well I for the US Utah State will be the first collegiate wrestling team to travel outside the United States They set a precedent for other teams to travel to Hawaii after their visit in 1973 Though the team is trying to raise the $11000 they need (and already have $9700 of that collected) donations from the public will be greatly appreciated For those of you who may be upset about student funds going to the Athletic Department you will be happy to know that thefeam does not want to use Athletic Department or USU funds for the trip The fall will not just include football though Cross country soccer and lacrosse will begin their seasons inand of course there will be the tramural program Being Friday night and you won't be reading this until Monday morning the phrase most heard on this " So sports fans first weekend is "Here's to "Here's to you" ever-popul- Utah — A trend first two years at his “setter” Utah State Phil Krueger set his sights on ending one Saturday night in Tallahassee Florida when the Aggies tangle for the first time with Florida State’s Seminoles in Campbell Stadium LOGAN (40500) Kickoff is set for 5:30 pm mountain time USU is 0 FSU 0-- 1 (USU’s Big Blue Network will beam the game action back to Utah and Idaho beginning at 5:10 pm mountain time on stations KBLW (Logan) KSNN (Pocate(Salt Lake llo) KWHO-FKVEL (Vernal) KDAB-FCity) KVSI (Montand (Ogden) pelier) It’s a fathomless phenomenon but in recent years the Aggies have had trouble scoring early season points Even this year despite a rather comfortable “statistical” domination in Saturday’s opener over Utah the es Pittsburgh Kansas and Baylor all defeated FSU and went on to n competition post-seaso- But coach Darrell Mudra’s team lost to Alabama 7 on a last minute field goal last year FSU was still ranked number lour in the Bottom Ten Poll last week but nobody should take 8-- ability In those 22 losses the Seminoles lost six to teams that went to bowl Hike 1974 games si the eiTvJ $ Albs n?S Aube- -
