With this in mind I asked various people what their conception was of the students of the College of Nautral Resources I asked four questions to try and find what the image of this — on the Rampton Team VOTE FOR College and its students acutally is to others on campus The four questions were: 1) What do the students of the College of Natural Resources act and look like to you? 2) What do you think some of their convictions are about the environment? )3 Why do you think they are in Natural Resources? 4) What kind of work do you think a student majoring in Outdoor Recreation will do when he or she graduates? The majority of students interviewed had similar ideas of what a student in Natural Resources looked like Consensus indicates that they wear logger boots flannel shirts levi jeans down vests backpacks cowboy hats and usually sport a beard One coed thought that “all the freaks and cowboys on campus” were in Natural Resources and “a lot of bearded cowboys” was the reaction of another student Well now that you all have a picture in your mind of what a student in Natural Resources looks like this is how they act Singular quiet clannish outdoorsmen who are “hard to find unless green” If you’re wearing you think this a nice round overall description of character remember one thing: They are over-concern- ed people worrying about overgrown trees but ‘they are nice to talk Perception of their convictions was fairly uniform The wise use and protection of our natural resources- and a concern to see - environemental issues and ideas put to effective use were the comments most mentioned The majority terviewed frequently of nature” The reasons given for why students in Natural Resources choose this particular field ran along the same lines of “conviction for the environment” A love for nature a deisre to work outdoors a concern for the environment and a belief nature was a part of their lifes were most of the answers Other specific comments were : to earth” “That’s the trend-bac- k and “that is the only field where they could find a job” The final question many interesting and uncertain responses “Outdoor Recreation what kind of a job is that?” One way of answering that question is to repeat what other — students said “Planning logical ecological recreational sys&ms” said one tongue-twistin- student g “Wildlife research resort “smokejumpers” “ski and camp owners” and “park management for tourists” were some other ideas “They are people who specialize in playing” one student pointed out Another student said “most of them work for state agencies as park rangers” What is a park ranger? “A park ranger is one who cleans toilets picks up papers empties garbage cans you know general maintainence” Aside from the questions the students interviewed had some suggestions for the people in Natural Resources: (1) establish a paper recycling center on campus and (2) have more environmental lectures to inform us (the studentbody) of issues and debates with which we should be concerned After the game It’s the football fan’s flavor! for UTAH STATE TREASURER A ON NOVEMBER 7 DAVID L Dovid DUNCAN i- - L Duncan For State Treasurer Committoo lavon v C Montgomery Secretory ' in- the students of NR “were intune respectful and involved with sr 4rsv those also thought After the game head for a s ice cream store Ask for the fabulous ice cream flavor created to celeb ate the fooibaii season— Hold That Lime!
