| Show 2 — WASHINGTON D C — This column will not ire written with the intention of doing the political homevvoik of Student Life sion to shed VS Privilege Journalism-Plig- ht Writing a eulumn for Student Life ought to be an interesting experience to say the least r eteran with this publication it's impossible Being a to feel remorse about this assignment — other duties are often 'too tortuous But that’s the plight of a journalist! Producing a newspaper requires qualities iu a person which can either make or break hint Without nerves of steel and a cast iron stomach one can rapidly become neurotic and develop ulcers — I know Journalists hate a history of being disliked by the general public Not many members of the craft are what could be classified as They have been accused of starting wars causing corruption racial strife and even promoting juvenile delinquency — among other things University newspapers and their producers are not immune to traditional criticisms Regardless of how students may try it s virtually impossible to convince leaders that having a paper is a blessing Practically the only way to convince studentbodies that a paper is worthwhile is to fail to produce it That has been done before and students clammored for their news But despite criticism and abuse being part of a newspaper's production provides a medium of expression and a feeling of accomplishment so worthwhile that disadvantages such as ulcers poverty and persecution become accepted as matters of no concern Being a newspaper man provides one with an automatic ‘'in’’ and makes it possible to do things others merely dream about (Clark Kent didn't really exist in case you've wondered) The public recognizes the privilege of gaining information and consequently it grants ready access to the press two-yea- well-love- d Ideal College Little Life---- A College life means different things to different people To some It means wild times to some it means social life to some it serves jsoley as a means of gaining a spouse to some It serves soley as a means of gaining a permanent job and to others it serves soley to further their knowledge In other words a person can find at and make out of a unisuch as Utah State about what he or she wants to versity ‘ iome people like what they find so much that they spend as much as 10 jears attending college and then still don't want to leave Others dislike the college scene and quit after a quarter Still others stay in college simply because their friends do and becau-- e it seems to be the stilish tiling to do Finally there is the group of red blooded (?) American males which is going to college more or less to avoid an old fellow Uncle Sam named Sam ! From where we sit it seems the real purpose for going to school shouldn’t be any one single reason mentioned above hut instead a combination of all of them (with the possible exception of the last depending on the degree of one's patriotism) d It is evident that a student is getting cheated out of his t ?) money if he just plays around at college and does no s'udyirg On the other hand this corner believes he is getting cheated just as much if he studies all the time and docs no playhard-earne- be to s on will have been achieved One more thing by way of introduction: In fairness to readers I should acknowledge that my congressional employer is a Republican generally regarded by political observers as a Students Interested in serving on Union Building committees and participating in Union activities may now fill out applications at tiie secretary's desk in the activity center of the Union Building Committee positions and some chairmanships are open and all interested students may apply Some of the committees oil which positions are open include the movie dance publicity secretarial and hospitality committees Tickets For ’Y’ 'U' Games On Sale Moulton ISU ticket manager tickets will go on sale at the ticket ofitce in the UB Tuesday for the University of Utah game in Salt Lake and the BYU game at lTo-vto According hit a happy medium and have an college life We wish to welcome all new transfer and for that matter colveteran USU students Good luck in finding a lege life! And whether you find it or not we truly believe you couldn’t have chosen a better university at which to seek it USU may now seem harsh and strange As time passes howev er it will become just the opposite friendly and familiar USU was built and designed for you the students Take what it offers vou but give what you can in return Treat and care for it in a manner deserving of what it is something of value to ou and everyone else who attends it d be However he himself dislikes the assigning of political tags such as the above preferring instead to concentrate and work for certain principles wherever he may find them along the governmental spectrum I tend to agree with this outlook but there are some issues on which the Congressman and I openly and honestly differ All of which points out a fact which I'm confident will become obvious in the writings to follow: This column is not intended as a mouthpiece for the Republican Prices with activity cards will be S2 per each game Moulton said that all seats are reset ve seats thereto! e if students want to sit together they must purchase tickets at the same time Moulton said that a student may buy one other ticket than his own upon the presentation bl two activity cards Bloc reservations will not be accepted To obtain admitance to the home games all students mint -present their activity aids ami ID cards if they are available to gates seven and eight on the east side of the stadium it will not be necessary to pick up tickets in advance -- — Studentbody Prexy Discusses Student Government Roles In 1964 on the Iieikclcv campus in California Mario Savin shouted "We shall see who runs this university!"
