past 32 years He was a taint- mechanic ed and worked for Boeing prior to Austin He grew up in Garland Utah and graduated from Bear 1986 2 worked at the U&l Sugar Factory at age 16 and then as an electrician for 21 years at Thiokol He aso worked at Cache Valley Electnc Morton and the INEEL as an electrician He was a Garland Fire Department volunteer for 13 years as a firefighter and on the First Response Unit He was active m scouting and served as a Sunday School President and Counselor Elders Quorum President and as a Seventy in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Samts He was devoted to his wife and children opening his home to family and friends cooking hunting fishing and loving all of the outdoors as long as his children were with him He was a humorous gentle man who graced everyone around him with unconditional love and regard Survivors include his best fnend and wife Lyn Westergard Austin Idaho Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal He was forever changed by the war He deeply loved his country and proudly exhibited his beioved U S Flag As a lifetime member of the VFW and DAV he was very active m the annual poppy sales fund raising efforts and many times as recognized as the top salesman in the state of Washington In 1996 he was recognized as the top poppy salesman in the entire UnitEuropean-Afncan-Midd- Falls Idaho: his valiant battle with chronic Shirley was bom on March 21 1927 in Zeigier Illinois Her parents were James and Hiidred Murphy entering the U S Army Air Corps in 1945 she married Kenneth Hamrron in Frankfurt Germany They were lat-’1998 OGDEN - Our wonderful and loving father grandfather brother and beloved husband Robert Bob' Phipps returned to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday July 29 1998 after fighting a very courageous battle with pulmonary fi- brosis and cancer He was bom June 13 1925 the son of George and Eva Phipps He grew up in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School In 1943 he joined the U S Coast Guard where he served in the South Pacific during World War II on the USS Bisbee On July 5 1946 Bob married his sweetheart Ann Stoddard He was a member of the LDS Church Bcb worked at various occupations throughout his life He was a boat operator during the construction of the Union Pacific causeway across the Great Salt Lake In more recent years he worked as an advertising sales asHe established The Bob sociate Phipps Advertising Agency' which he managed until his retirement Bob enjoyed cheering for the Broncos and the Jazz boating fishing and being with his family He was a very generous and considerate person who delighted m making others happy He radiated enthusiasm and many were drawn to his love of life He had a very special sense of humor and even through the pain and suffering he endured he always cheered up those around him The family wishes to thank Dr Tim Houden for this kindness and dedica-tiein canng for our father Bob is survived by his operator and in electronic repair always happy when she was working with her hands She was a member and officer in the VFW and Amencan Legion always active in fighting for causes she believed in She was also a member of the Eastern Star a member and supporter of the Republican Womens Association Shirley will be remembered by her family and friends tor her generous heart and special devotion she had to her family Her quick wit always brought a smile and with a look she could bnng the most defiant child (or adult') to complete submission The twinkle in her eyes was mischievious her sense of
