Show CUWC Lions off to good start in In its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, March 14, the Board of Directors of the Central Utah Water ConserDistrict unanimously vancy approved a resolution affirming the basis of the supplements repayment contract presently under development between the CUWCD and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The purpose of the resolution is to permit a Congressional consideration period of 60 days to proceed while the final language of the contract is completed. This will allow the toward ultimate process approval of this contract move ahead without delay. The resolution acknowledges that the 1965 Repayment Contract is to remain in effect while a supplemental repayment contract of up to $335,000 is approved by the board and taken to the people of the District for approval. Further, it recognizes that the municipal and industrial water authorization is in addition to the $16,400,000 water obligation irrigation which is to be paid by the irrigation water users. Finally, the resolution projected a final approval of the Supplemental Repayment Contract at their next monthly meeting of the Board to be held April 11, 1985. When final approval is given by the CUWCD Board, the agreement will go to the Secretary of Interior for his approval. new baseball season okays resolution by Michael Olson The Payson Lion Baseball Team is off to a great start in baseball. Coach Gary Mathew-son- s team walloped Juab 13-on Saturday, then Monday Bonneville night slapped in a classic pitchers duel featuring Payson s lefty Pino Uriste. The win over Bonneville shows the Lions will indeed be in the thick of it in a very competitive Region Eight this year. Pino put together a to edge out Bonnevilles Martin, who held the Lions to five. Pino also aided himself with his second home run in two games. The first three innings went by quickly, neither team managing to score, but in the top of the fourth Bonneville came across with three runs,' the final 5 4-- A 4-- 3 four-hitt- two coming on a er two-ru- n homer. The Lions answered that in their half of the fourth when Ron Wing walked and Pino delivered his shot, n narrowing the score to went difference. Bonneville in the top down of the fifth, then the Lions took the lead when Lynn Allred singled along with Bob Sonju, n and both scored on a double by Ron Wing. That was all the scoring necessary for the two-ru- n one-ru- two-ru- win. Coach Mathewson praised the play of both Pino and Lynn Allred, Allred playing a fine defensive game at second as well as scoring and picking up two hits. In the win Saturday against Juab, Troy Porter made the game a personal slugfest as he went three for three, including two doubles and a home run. The winning pitcher was Joel Fernelius, who struck out seven in picking up a seven-hi- t victory. Porter put the Lions ahead early by hitting a homer in the first inning after Bob Sonju s single, but Juab scored three in the third to take a short-livelead. In the bottom of the third, Keith Davis and Rong Wing both singled, was Porter intentionally walked, then Pino blasted a grand slam home run to make for the home the score team. The Lions would add five more in the fifth as Thad Loader walked, Joel Fernelius and Bob Sonju singled, Ron Wing walked, and Porter delivered a I double. That made the two-ru- n d 6-- 3 two-RB- score 11-- 3. Juab scored two more runs the fifth, but the Lions matched that with a run apiece in the sixth and seventh in innings. Thad Loader singled in the sixth and was knocked in self-contr- ol 6:30 p.m. Class sessions will be held Thursdays throughout the year and the program can be joined at any time. Community members are invited to attend this weekly program on weight management. Sonju is the most heralded player on the team, seeing action last summer, but Thad Loader is considered one of the best catchers in the area, while the others have seen plenty of action the past two years. all-st- ar Coach Mathewson praises his teams offense and defense. The Bonneville game shows he has good grounds for doing so. This week the team travels to the Sunshine Tournament at Dixie, where the Lions, one of the smallest schools in the state, will play the largest 4:A school in the state, Alta, said to have a very strong baseball team this year.
