Two seniors from Granger high have been selected to fly to Hyde Park, N.Y. tomorrow (Friday) to compete in national cooking competition. Craig Wbatcott, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Fotheringham, 3560 Cochise Dr. and Jan Ar-mo- of Armon, 3681 So. 3375 West, were named regional winners. They are the only ones selected from Utah to attend the national contest. The two were required to make a portfolio of a meal, cook it, take color pictures and submit it for consideration. Students in high school and their first year of college were eligible. As juniors last year, the two were in an occupational foods class taught by Debbie Patricia daughter Tomkinson. Other students from Granger high also submitted entries, it was noted. The areas of co- mpetition include movable feasts, dinner for two, party for friends and family dinner. Selecting family dinner for his efforts, the Whatcott boy came up with clay-bake- d chicken, yapple, spiced mushroom and celery salad, golden seeded harvest rolls and orange fomage. The chicken is prepared with seasonings, stuffed with dressing and then wrapped in a salt clay that is made right along with the other food preparation and then baked at a high temperature for l2 hours. It is served on a tray, garnished and served with a hammer or mallot. The boys original recipe for yapple includes yams and apples layered in a casserole dish with a special sauce and baked in the oven. His mushroom and celery salad is served with a garlic dressing that he prepares from scratch. Most unusual on his menu is his unique and original hot roll. The raised dough is rolled into a snake, wrapped coming up with a locomotive delight sandwich she created for the occasion.
