'Buck' Brt Addresses Group at Meet County Commissioner, Charles Buck Brady, told Kearns Jaycees on October 11, that juvenile delinquency is no longer something that happens to other peoples children it is a problem of the entire community. In a meeting held at the Pizza Hut, Commissioner Brady stressed the apathy of the general public toward this serious problem, and asked that the Jayces, as well as all community organizations, cooperate in making everyone aware of their responsibility to give children the proper guidance, love and discipline. He said that the trend of modem parents is to make baby sitters of churches, schools, and law enforcement agencies, and that members of the home are going more and more their own way, rather than joining in family activities. He spoke of the resultant states of delinquency which cause boys and girls to be interned in detention homes, and later major penal institutions. He cited the alarming Henry Beech of the Walker Neal Snyder VFW 'Post 9322 was recently appointed Aid De Camp to Sr. Vice Commander in Chief, Joseph J. Lombardo, National VFW. His duties will be to assist the Department Commander and the membership chairman. One of his first duties was to meet National Commander Byron Gentry, when he arrived in Salt Lake City on October 17, and escort him to a banquet in his honor held at the Atomic Post. The Kearns Post is beginning increase in sex crimes, delinquency in girls, and mounting youthful suicidal tendencies. These are problems that can be corrected in the home, he said, if all parents will assume the responsibility of raising their children. Often, young people are stopped by the police on the streets at 1 and 2 in the morning, and many parents express the opinion that these hours are not unreasonable for their children to be out. Commissioner Brady described the facilities of the old Salt Lake County Detention Home, which are seriously crowded and inadequate. He then told of the new facilities at 3500 South and 700 West, which will have 45 individual units, arts and crafts, a large gymnasium,' a new kitchen and good central heating. He said these new quarters will enable trained workers to teach the children in a dignified atmosphere and to effect greater rehabilitation. When children are found at an early age, they can often be taught to be useful citizens, said Commissioner Brady, an dthis makes the money spent for this purpose of utmost value in our society. Kearns Jaycees planned to tour the old and new facilities on Sunday, but were forced to postpone these plans due to inclement weather. The tour will be held in the near future under the direction of Commissioner Brady. George Slack was in charge of the meeting, with Darr Harvvard arranging the program. Special guest at the meeting was Jerry Kalm, 5271 South 4620 West, who is a potential new Jaycee.
