Show jp 1 from i carson couty comity the excitement concerning the newly discovered mines in western utah at latest dates was daily increasing 0 and from all accounts after making z a great reduction for exaggeration the mineral wealth of carson county is inexhaustible the washoe mines in particular are represented as being extensive and very rich the sacramento union of oct 29 says edward hubling Ru rub bling ing assayer in harvey harrison co s assay office in this city exhibited to us yesterday yeste iday some specimens s mens of silver ore from the washoe diggings which had been left for assay he informed us that this ore would assay about per ton viz in the proportion of of gold and of silver the general average of the ore is however about 2500 to per ton mr says he is considerably conversant with the silver ore of mexico including that of sonora and that the washoe ore is much the richest in this connection we give the following 0 extract of a letter from a merchant of this city genoa carson valley under date of oct idd to his partner here I 1 met today to day a cousin of tom woods bill morrison Mor rigon who owns one sixth of the comstock claim silver for which he refused 1 I have seen a number who have lately sold out one an old man nir mr air hammock is here on his way to the atlantic states with which he got t for his interest in a lead he sold tor tog tob davidson banker of san francisco there I 1 is s no doubt of the vast richness and extent of the mines the specimens I 1 have seen been run about one third of gold and two thirds of silverano silv erand some with angood a per cent of copper most of the ore has been be en taken to san francisco cis aana iana and from flom thence is being 0 shipped alto to europe some are of the opinion that it can be i melted on the ground as ai well weli ag as to haul it over the mountains and then transport to some foreign country if itcan it can it will save some expense in its transportation but will not prevent either the gold or the silver from being taken out dut of the united states it will go ultimately ti either to europe or asia for the manufactures and productions of those countries tha the excitement throughout upper califor jila jlia ni is great and many are going to the mines we clip the following from the union in norderto order to show the interest taken in these mines we would mention that six stage stame t loads of people left placerville erville yesterday morning for virginia city and mr hughes while on his liis way met from sixty to eighty wagons loaded with goods for the same destination H he e aiso also al J passed from twenty five to thirty wagons wa 9 ons lq aed ded with silver ore and bound to folsom so in and sacramento X A large amount of bf goods is also represented to be on the way from marysville marksville Marys ville these mines are destined to oper open a new country to settlement and will proved powerful aid in working out the problem lem iem of a pacific railroad being on the direct line of the great central route the mountain democrat says that a carson valley vailey friend who formerly resided in this place V writes rites us under date of october dome sc come e over and examine our silver mines they are fabulously rich indeed you yon might question my veracity were I 1 to tell you how rich and extensive they are I 1 have seen specimens of the ore that looked like the pure stuff itself would you credit my statement verg were veri log inform you that one lead here is valued at five hundred thousand dollars and that thai fifty thousand dollars has been offered and refused for a sixth part of it incredible as this sounds it is nevertheless true but those who were victimized by the frazer river excitement may be excused for not cat placing t implicit belief li in n iny statement but you know full well that I 1 am not interested in these claims and that I 1 have no motive in deceiving C any one I 1 do not ask you even to credit my state ask you to come over and 6 or yourself and ana ani be convinced of their richness prospectors capitalists merchants miners and idlers are pouring into the valley from every quarter and if the excitement continue and extend throughout your Stat eif new veins are discovered and it is reasonable to suppose they will be for the diggings are full of willing and hopeful pro prospect prospectors specters ers era we ive shall soon have a population sufficiently large to entitle us to a state government the question arises what effect will these discoveries have on our nominal governor Govern orp orr the virtu virtuous oas brigham and his horde of fanatics suppose he be should attempt to dispossess dis posses us and drive us out of the valley he meet with a vei welcome vel come reception how long would it be before bea ore the church would lose its bead but it is il useless to speculate upon the future I 1 win will only say this in conclusion we anticipate the arrival of oa ofa a number of mormons cormons from salt lake as bogn as the news of the discoveries in these diggings 0 reaches them 5 the people of carson need not mot have any fears about brigham young driving 0 them out of in any way interfering with their mining operations they can have their own fun at mf mining ning and no ta genuine mormon will ever go there to molest them and it ia is a little singular that such mighty brave fellows bof should be so afraid of a people so f far ar from them as are the mormons cormons in this part of the territory but then if it were not so the words of the ancient 1 prophets would not be fulfilled in relation to them |
