Brigadoon is the fanciful Scotch highlands village of a hit Broadway musical that this week is being presented on the University of Utah Summer Festival stage. Curtain time is 8:30 p.m. nightly through Saturday, July 11. Who could help but enjoy such melodies as Waitin for My Like Almost Dearie, Being in Come to Me, Bend to Me Love, and Heather on the Hill. Maybe the tunes arent always the kind you would sing to your sweetheart and therefore not top Hit Parade prospects but they are lilting and listenable, especially when done by a and a orchestra. Add impressive staging (probably the most lavish ever done for a Summer Festival production), colorful costumes (kilts, plaids, and typical Scottish dress), thrilling dance routines and stars from Broadway and the Intermountain Area. And with this rapid growth comes the demand for more shopping facilities and professional offices. The company of Inc., have had the forsight to see this need, and plan to give the public the necessary facilities they demand. As formerly stated, this is only a proposed project, until the county zoning commission will grant n Inc. the right to go ahead with their building project by rezoning the building site for commercial purposes. Architects for the proposed shopping center are Clark & Montgomery, of Reseda, California. The building will house forty separate business units. There will also be a medical and professional building and two apartment houses will be included in the planning. Nine nationally recognized stores have made application for business establishment locations in the shopping center. Also two local banks have made application for business areas. One elementary school and one church are planned for the 180 home residential area now rezoned. The construction of the buildings will be of concrete and steel, with . An outsider deciding to live in Brigadoon may do so if he loves someone in Brigadoon enough (anything is possible when you love someone enough.) But if a Brigadoon resident ever leaves, the enchantment will end and the village and all of its people will disappear forever. A disappointed lover, Harry Beaton (played by Kip Carlisle of Broadway, who was known as Elden Smart when he lived in Utah), threatens to leave Brigadoon when the girl he loves marries Charlie Dalrymple by (played former Utahn Glade Peterson). Only after a lively chase is he thwarted. As for Tommy, he cant quite decide to renounce everything for his love of Fiona. But back in New York City he is haunted by his memories and returns for the happy ending. 11 Founders' Day Queen Selected The final judging of the Founders Day contestants was held Thursday, July 2, at a coronation dinner at the Kearns Jr. High School. Miss Blanch Masse, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Masse, 5057 Alex St., was elected to the position of Founders Day Queen with a total of 13,425 votes. Miss Linda Slick, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Slick, 4980 So. 4980 West and Miss Marjie Bawden, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard S. Bawden, were elected to serve with her as attendants for the coming year. The attendants wil lreign equally and not as first and second attendant. The contest was judged by the penny a vote system, with the funds being used for community service. A total of $416.32 was raised by the contestants vieing for the title. Registration for contestants in the Miss Utah Pageant will be held Saturday, July 11 at 9 a.m. in the auditorium of the Prudential Federal Savings & Loan building, at the corner of 3500 South and State St., Salt Lake City. A luncheon will be held for contenders and their guests during the day. Girls who are not selected as finalists in the preliminary judging will not enter into the talent and swim suit competition. The preliminary contest will follow the registration in the morning.
