Show valmore ajile suggestions to fruit growers by hon C A to the fruit growers of 0 utah utah today Is passing through the experience that california oregon colorado and washington have passed through we have reached a period where the fruit industry demands a concert of ot action or in other words that they get tog together ethe by forming fruit growers associations and thereby insuring a uniform pack and better prices the writer Is personally acquainted with the managers and some of the most prominent growers of hie associations in the states mentioned and I 1 it t is the universal verdict that the only way to ity in picking packing and marketing fruit Is through organization for the reason that where associations are formed formesi all fruit must be picked and packed under inspection statistics will kill show that in each of 0 tile the states mentioned land values have increased many many fold in conversation last week with a man from california largely interested in the fruit deal for a great many years in that state I 1 was told that prior to the fruit growers organization nearly every fruit farm tn in california was under mortgage and that in a very few years after organization prices advanced so materially teri ally in both product of the orchard and also land values va lues that a great many of those growers gro aers are today automobile farmers in the spring of associations were organized in the following places ogden brigham city salt lake and provo prove arr arrangements inge ments were made with the manager of the grand junction association john F r moore to supervise the picking packing and marketing of the fruit three hundred and thirty three cars of peaches were shipped by said associations that bore a uniformity of pack and did more to advertise utah fruit than a great many people have any idea of letters are being received from the different markets where said fruit was placed that speak very highly of the fruit and also of the pack it Is true that we were confronted with low prices which seemed to prevail throughout the united states last year but the writer is of the opinion that had bad it not been for organization a bli big per cent of the fruit that was shipped would have been allowed to remain in the orchard the reasons for the low prices were first nearly every fruit raising district in the united states had had a full crop of peaches last year second owing to the panic closing down so many favorites a large number of men were thrown out of employment consequently cutting down their purchasing capacity I 1 i we have now in the state eleven fruit growers organizations which will no doubt be acied to until there will be an organization in every fruit growing district when this condition prevails utah can then expect to take her proper place and receive prices equal to the best there Is no question about the quality of utah fruit the sweep steak prizes received by the state board of horticulture at the irrigation congresses in dolse boise idaho in the year 1906 ind and also at sacramento california 1907 and albuquerque new mexico 1908 giving to utah fruit tile the first prize against all other states in the union should convince us that our fruit is equal to the best I 1 am also informed that utah cherries won first prize at ate alaska yukon pacific Ei exposition position now being held in seattle Wash washington inkton the following letter will give us an idea of 0 where we stand on sweet cherries the cherries referred to in said letter were grown and packed by E G mcgrill mcgraff lff
