Show short weight in flour the editorial in last weeks 1 issue i sue of the news referring to short we weight f g I 1 flour brought a prote protest st front from a certain milling firm the proprietors claiming that the article was directed against them the article in question lid did not refer to anyone in particular as no names were mentioned and the writer did not know which mill the hour flour came from that was reported to be short in in weight but in justice to the company referred to above we cheerfully give their side of the story ant and report what we actually saw in company with members of the milling firm the editor of this paper weighed a number of sacks ot of flour taken promiscuously from the warehouse where they had been stored lor for two or three months and the weights were as follows 47 pounds 2 ounces 47 pounds 2 ounces 46 pounds IS ounces flour is an article that will shrink and this firm like all others puts only 48 pounds of 0 flour in a 50 pound sack that is recognized by the manufacturers and patrons al alike ike as being a just weight because of the fact that the mill furnishes the sack when a patron goes to the mill and orders 60 50 pounds of flour put into his own sack then he gets full weight the above firm does not claim to be immune from mistakes because the sacking of flour is left to their miller but they do assert that their instructions in are and always have been to give good weight so that in the shrinkage the weight will still hold out the gentlemen who own the mill in question are strong in ili their denunciation nun nuncia clation tion of any person who would stoop to such depravity as giving under weight for full measure and they desire to be set aright in ili the minds of the public as being above anything of that nature for that reason this article is cheerfully penned |
