Members of the stake committee in charge of construction are William A. Middleton, chairman. with Karl Weiss, M. L. EchIngton and Claude L. White as members. The stake president will be advisor to the commit-.te-e. The new recmtion center will fin a long felt need. for such facilities in the Liberty Stake and will be greatly appreciated by the people of the stake, President Elggren .. Throughout the afternoon an informal musical program was presented while visitors were taken on of the new building, with stake missionaries as guides. McKay The dedicatory prayer, offered by President McKay on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m., observclimaxed a three-da- y ance of the occasion. On Friday evening a word banquet and program was held. A musical program was presented on Saturday by the present ward choir, assisted by many former members. This was followed by a dance sponsored by the MIA. i - Dedicated Sunday, Oct. 16, 1949, by President David FULFILLMENT of a prediction made 81. years ago in Phoenix. Ariz, by Pres, David O. McKay of the First Presidency was witnessed at the recent dedication of the Phoenix First Ward chapel and recreation ball by more than 2000 persons attending the services. In February of 1918 President McKay, then a member of the Council of the Twelve, assisted in the organization of the original Phoenix Ward. At that time he told the 82 persons present that he bad "never organized a ward where prospects were so bright" Since then seven wards have been created within the original boundaries, and in contrast to the oilginal 62 members, there are now nearly 5000 in the Phoenix Stake. President Elggren explained that the work is expected to begin Just as soon as working drawings and specifications are completed. If good weather permits a start on construction will be made yet this fall.
