| Show TIE THE 8 0 Y sweet as clover blossoms just about sums up the presentation ot or princess bonnie by the C D Y opera company in the opera house here last thursday evening and yet those few words by no means does the company full justice for there were so many excellent characters both in stage presence and voice that a more detailed criticism is due them to begin at the beginning prof robinson must receive first mention ile he is an indefatigable worker and his complete mastery of the production was shown in ili the ease case with which lie he handled the large choruses and the promptness with which they in lurn urn responded to the conductor to just sit alt and watch prof robinson wale waie his baton is an inspiration and to him Is due very largely the credit of the tha production prof robinson was ably assisted by the orchestra which was re really ally first class the C D Y college boasts of some very good musicians among its students and the orchestra handled the music of princess donnie bonnie to perfection dainty sweet and lovable as ever miss carrio carrie thomas as princess don bon ale carried off the honors of the singing her clear voice maintained its fullness to the last and her celinea tion ot of the character was as all that could be desired miss irene hendricksen was a close second to miss thomas in her rendition of kitty clover belle of the village her stage presence was excellent cel lent singing very good and the little dance with mr bullen simply captivated the audience miss vera l as auntie juntip crab the spinster and assistant keeper of the light house had a good part and she was not behind the others in in getting all there was out of it the lady has a very good voice also miss jessie hendricks as the wife of the great spanish admiral looked every inch a titled lady and sang san the part splendidly mr asa bullen won the hearts of the audience at once as ho he came bounding upon the stage dressed in the nobby suit of a canoeist amid the burras hur ras of 0 his who had been cheer cheering liAg in ill his race for first diplac attili VP noci mr Dullen sL voles voice suited the character very nicely and ns as he gained confidence he put a dash and spirit into the part that was contagious the little duel scene in the second let act between mr air bullen and mr dailey bailey was nas lone done perfectly mr evington Rv inston watson as AO roy Y sterling in love with bonnie Bop nie had ha of a beautiful voice which rang out in clear tones ills his little passages with donnie bonnie were very good though we should judge that al mr r W watson a t so b had a d lights never never before appeared ipp eared be before fo r e tue the f foot 0 0 f someone has used the phrase dir anely tall As mr ed hansen stepped upon the bridge up ill stage with dainty little miss thomas at its his side he was truly the embodiment of that sentence but but associated with mr hansens helg heights heigh lith th was a lent voice of the baritone quality which he handled well and his di lineation of tue the part ot of the light house keeper was one of tile the best things in the cast in the second act dressed in ill a christopher columbus costume mr air jansen hansen I looked swell all and kept up lip his end of the production admirably the admiral pomposo of mr air elmer eliner stoddard was excellently done mr stoddard has a good voice and his portrayal of the haughty spanish officer was a very neat thing mr air lawrence dailey bailey as count wi with tb a long name did the part very well ills his voice was not taxed heavily on account of the easy music which the part was written in the duel scene with shrimps scrimps Sh rimps the gen telman was excellent the two coons were a perfect delight the parts were taken by Ales rs loren lewis and wesley andersen the chorus work was about all that could be asked for the singers conductor and orchestra moved together as one and the harmony was beautiful this feature coupled with the natty well fitting bitting costumes added its weight to the performance and from start to finish Prin princess coss donnie bonnie was a perfect delight its really too bad that we to do not get more of such wholesome productions thru out cut the show season and less of the harmful nielo molo adrania tile the company drew a pretty good housa anbach lich was due no doubt to lo the excellent t presentation sen tation of princess ida I 1 tile the same sallie company here a your ao ave say come bome a again ada da yoa are more than welco welcome ire |
