I Co -- to actively get involved with students. Demko has spent 12 years working in international education and has worked at Westminster for the past two and a half. She advises international students once they arrive here and also works with local students who wish to study abroad. She acts as an immigration advisor, making sure students comply with federal regulations and takes care of student visas. She also completes the outbound paperwork for students who are interested in studying in other countries around the world. Demko works with Currently, approximately 100 international students on campus, and 20 students abroad. Among the international students that choose to attend classes at Westminster, there are certain aspects of life on campus in Utah that they seem to be drawn towards. Once the students get here, they are attracted by the natural environment and opportunity for outdoor recreation, Demko said. Westminster is a short drive from many skiing, climbing or hiking areas. While there are many reasons why students are drawn here from other areas, these students help create diversity that acts as a reason to travel here in and of itself. International students provide the campus community with different perspectives. Their diverse backgrounds and experiences provide a good chance for students to learn from one another. International students can be a benefit to us by bringing discussion. Its a good chance for students to learn from each other. It will expand the learning for all students to be exposed to different backgrounds, Demko says. We have the knowledge of many different countries accessible at our fingertips. I would encourage all students to get involved or reach out to international students here, Demko says. These students are thousands of miles away from home. The International Club is open to all students regardless of origin and is one way to meet students with different backgrounds. The Language Living Room provides a setting for students to meet with each other and learn about other cultures. Students are In addition to being recognized by the Princeton Review, Westminster was also ranked in the 2011 U.S. News 8c World Report college guidebook as a top-tiinstitution. This is Westminsters er sixteenth consecutive year making the list. Not only is Westminster renowned for its local life, small classes, and access to nature, it has also been recognized for academic programs. Westminster is expanding at a rapid rate. If trends continue at this same pace, the campus will expect to see a continued influx of students from outside Utah and around the world. These students will bring new perspectives to Westminsters diverse community and may enhance learning for those attending classes. As they share their background and ways of life, the rest of the student body can share their traditions as well. encouraged to practice speaking foreign languages with native speakers. Westminster was recognized in several different categories by the Princeton Review, including quality of life and local relations. Westminster also ranked among their Best, 373 Colleges in America. Inclusion on this list is based largely on academic standards within the school. Since such small amounts of Americas colleges are included on this list, this acknowledgement is highly esteemed. f?
