Show n if Staff writer reviews on campus dining Top pick: Burrito Jason Dunnigan StaffWriter Sushi, burritos, French fries, tatter tots, and salad bars can only mean one thing: Shaw, the place that many students are turning to for their hunger needs. Shaw is located in the heart of campus and convenient for when you are on the go, running late to class and need a bite to eat, or trying to find something to eat that from last night. is not a five bucks The food is better than the other colleges I had looked at McKenna Sorenson, a new freshman who is living on campus, said about Shaw. They have a wide variety of choices and its all pretty good. Sarah Kapp, another freshman who is not living on campus said, Its fast and there is a huge choice of different things that you can just grab and go. It seems that the convenience of speed of Shaw is what draws students in and makes them want to eat there. So hot-and-rea- dy I decided that I would try this out for myself and see if Shaw really wasnt as bad as I had heard. First, I thought I would try one of my favorite things to eat, sushi. Now, going into this I know that I am not going to be getting Happy Sumo or Sapa style sushi, but I was hoping for the best. The tray came with soy sauce and wasabi, a step in the right direction for my sushi experience. I sat down and got everything ready, grabbed my chop sticks and took my first bite. Frozen. Not what I wanted at all and just ruined it all for me. I decided to give Shaw a second chance and try something freshly cooked from the grill. Now the grill is not going to always serve the same things, but they are great for letting you know the nutritional breakdown of most of the things they are serving. I was able to get some green beans and grilled chicken ' which looked and smelled amazing. Again, I sat in Shaw and situated myself so that I would be able to enjoy and warm meal comfortably. The first bit of chicken was amazing. It was juicy, had a great taste, and had tons of flavor from all the spices. The green beans made the meal seem more like I was eating at home and enjoying a real meal that wasnt going to cost me a ton of calories. Plus, the meals they make from the grill are prepared just before serving and so they are fresh, hot, and they make it so that Shaw has a constant smell of good food. Finally, I decided to try one of the burritos I see a lot of the students eating during lunch. Walking straight back I noticed the line and thought, If there is a line for this it must be good. I ordered a chicken burrito and went out on the center patio with some friends to enjoy our food. My first bite it quickly became my last. I ate the thing so fast that I wanted to get another one. Out of all the things to eat in Shaw this is the only thing I will eat here, Victoria Garland, a senior said about the burritos in Shaw. Its nice having this here for the convenience, but Im glad that I dont have to eat it for every meal. So, for the most part the food wasnt that bad and the students seem to think so too, otherwise they wouldnt keep eating and the lines wouldnt be there. f |
