Show 1 Arts & Ent c and art shows Plays, concerts, Westminster students prepare for spring showcase Jenni Stokes Staff Writer The spring season is abloom with arts and entertainment at Westminster College. ? The art students are currently working hard to present and perform their works of art to be shown later in the season. A line up of art exhibits, stage shows and musical concerts has something for everyone. Art The student art show marks the beginning of the spring arts season, showcasing the talents of Westminster students. The art show, which runs throughout March, will host a variety of student work in all mediums. David Baddley, associate art professor, is looking forward to bringing new life to the art department with this show. He is hoping for an edgier show, saying that the students in the art department have an untamable creativity that comes alive in their work. Baddley says the student body should support their peers by attending the show, which will feature photography, painting, pottery, and mixed media pieces. Students are encouraged to submit their work to the show before Feb. 26 and are not required to be enrolled in an art class to enter. The student art exhibit will be open to the public in the Tanner Atrium located in the Jewett Center for the Performing Arts March 1 through March 23 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. The senior art exhibit immediately follows, beginning with an opening reception on March 29. The show, produced completely by graduating art majors, will feature the students favorite pieces created while obtaining their art degrees at Westminster. The senior art show is the culmination of the graduating seniors school career, its like a thesis for art students, its their best of their best says Baddley. f Theater The theater department wall be performing the comedy, Red Noses, following a priest during the Great Plague who is determined to make people laugh in a time of despair. The play, directed by Professor Michael Vought, will run March 18, 19, 20 as well as March 25, 26 and 27 in the Black Box Theater. Vought says he is looking forward to directing this hilarious play and excited to showcase Westminsters theatrical talent. Students wall be given the chance to shine in April in the One Act Festival. The theater students will be producing and directing a series of one act plays hill of comedy, drama and romance. The show will be determined completely by the students imagination and creativity. Vought says these student-producshorts are bound to be an exciting entertaining evening, providing insight into the ere at, abilities of the students. ed Music March is an eventful month for the Westmin department, who will be displaying their musical tah variety of performances.
